Q: In my self directed margin account I have two calls:
1)50 calls of CPG C 21 JAN22, $3.00 that I paid .61c.
2)75 calls of CPG C 21 JAN 22, $4.00 that I paid .81c.
These calls don't expire till January and I have lots of room in my account to either cover them with margin, or sell another stock to cover, or sell the Calls outright. Of the choices listed, or something I am missing, is there any strategy to maximize my capital gains and/or minimize my taxes owing?
Thank you, Gord

Q: Say the capital gains inclusion rate increase from 50% to 75%. Does that mean it doesn't matter how long you've held the stock when you sell it gains are taxed at 75%? I'm not sure how the last rate changes were implemented but you may recall.
Q: Hey guys - I thought your answer posted on 7/9/21 on your investing philosophy was fantastic and very informative for a new investor. The one piece that I struggle with is not averaging down. If you like ABC at X the price and buy it, and 2 months later it is down 30% without any specific negative business developments, why would you not want to add (aside from a portfolio weighting perspective). MRS is an example of this and to me the price is dropping because people are impatient and want to see a large contract now, however the business risk appears the same today as when I bought it.
Thanks
Marc

Q: Hey guys. Can I get your comments on this company? What do they do? What is their growth profile and would buy the stock?
Q: Caldwell posted a "blowout" quarter both top and bottom line with strong outlook. Current market cap is equal to 3 months of revenue?? Shouldn't this stock rerate?
Q: What are your thoughts on VB with the launch of VCAD? The crypto currencies seem very risky as you have noted before. Should this stock be sold or does the VCAD have legs and buy more?

Q: Hi, I noticed today a security named Europe Carbon Permits, and looking at the graph, it's share price doubled in the last year.
Is there any equivalent security available on TSX or NYSE that could correlate to the price of Carbon Permits, and how would that sound to you as an investment long term?

Q: MAGT seems to be doing well lately. What are your current thoughts on its potential? Thanks.
Q: Hello 5i,
What would be fair value and a good entry point for NBLY? Been looking at getting in since around $22. It has moved up while my attention has been diverted due to work. Seemed to not be super liquid and traded in weird quantities on small volume. Your initial comments on the IPO were to let it settle in. Is it there now?
Thanks for your help.
Dave

Q: I have heard that one of the things that is a strong indicator a stock will outperform the market is the initiation of a dividend for the 1st time. I believe it may have been Peter who mentioned this on MarketCall. Parex announced Wednesday evening that they are initiating a dividend for the 1st time. I'm wondering what degree of outperformance you typically see from a company that begins paying a dividend, and how long does that outperformance typically last.
Q: Just a heads up to Mike re. his inquiry on this fund . There is a D Series - MFC5785 - with a more reasonable 1.63% MER.

Royal Canadian Mint - Canadian Gold Reserves Exchange-Traded Receipts (MNT)
Q: I have about 4% of my portfolio in MNT, ABX, and K, all bought a year ago and 20-25% under water. I am having trouble deciding if I should cut my losses, put them towards better gold stocks like AEM, or get rid of my gold exposure completely. If you're in my position, what would you do? What is your outlook for gold in the next few years? Are there any catalysts for gold as a sector you can foresee? I have a hard time envisioning them doing well when the economy is growing so nicely
Or is it good to keep as a hedge against the down days like today? The rest of my portfolio is diversified enough tending towards the growthy stocks, if that matters.
Thanks for your insight.

Q: Hello Peter & Ryan,
My wife would like to have your thoughts on EPAM & DAVA. She has some cash but only enough to buy either EPAM or DAVA. She wants to know which one do you prefer and why?
By-the-way there is still no response to my question on UFS submitted almost 2 days ago.
Your opinions are always valued (even if occasionally a little tardy)!

Q: Hello,
I would like to understand the performance bonus to Hamblin Watsa of 20% over 5 %.. is it operating like the Buffet partnership with the 0/6/25%? Is FIH.U operating like a mutual fund? What are your thoughts on a long term position? What sort of returns should one expect from this? Thank you for your sage advice. Shyam

Q: Good evening,
I’m looking to increase my stock holdings in the industrial sector. I currently own HON at 3% and have a small position in XBC (due to recent declines). I’d like to add 3 long-term stocks and have identified the following as options: CNR, WSP or J, TFII, XYL, ATA, ROP. I can accept higher risk and would like companies that are leaders or doing something new/innovative in their area. I was also thinking of diversifying within the industrial sector. I’m wondering what 3 additions you’d pick at this time, either from my list above or others that I may have missed? I’m also wondering whether I should add to XBC at this point?
Thank you for great this service!
Lisa

Q: Within a low fixed income component (10%), would half of that component in PFIA be too much? For the other half I’m thinking CSU.DB.
Thanks.
