Q: Dear Peter et al:

I see a lot of chatter about rare metals in the media. Some columnists, especially Technical analysts seem to favor this sector. Your answer to a fellow subscriber few months ago seems to lean towards REMX. However, it's returns seem to lag ZMT/XBM.

Do you think there is a role for rare metals at this time in one's portfolio? If so, what is your favorite ETF and why?

Thanks in advance.
Mano.

Q: Retired, dividend-income investor. Reading lots about supply chain shortages (semi-conductors, copper, steel, etc). How are we best to play this?

Should we consider selecting companies within specific industries (Copper Mountain or Teck comes to mind) or should we go the ETF route (via ZMT or another suggestion via 5iR)?

A dividend would be a bonus. BTW, in the materials sector I already own NTR.

Please list some companies that I can research.

Q: I own XEI, ALA, and TOUr but little oil.

I'm hoping to buy base metals and oil in an CDN etf. Do you think this is a good idea and what would you recommend?

Q: What are your thoughts on FCX/FM long term (any favourites?) I currently own FCX and ZMT.
Is 5i bullish on copper? If yes, what are your favourite ways to play it for a long-term hold. Are the names above reasonable?

Q: I am looking for basic material exposure in either ZMT XBM XMA XLB or VAW. What would be your pick for a comeback in basic material.
Thanks

Q: ZMT is a 3 bagger from January 2016 to February 2018, but has fallen slightly since. Is this a good time in the economic cycle to purchase this etf or has the easy money been made ie do you think there is still good growth potential? What would you consider a maximum weighting? I would like to add some giddyup to my TFSA with a well timed position in commodities if in fact the timing is right. Thank you

Q: Hello 5i team,
I hold in the materials sector Chemtrade Logistics, Methanex and Stella Jones; I'm thinking of selling CHE to buy a position in base metals
1. Is there any momentum left after the huge run up?
2. Nevsun has not participated in the run-up; wonder why
3. What 3 would you recommend, in order of preference
4. How about an ETF such as XBM or ZMT?
Thanks
Antoine

Q: Hello 5i team,
I hold all the stocks in the balanced portfolio except AEM and SYZ. Regarding my exposure to the tech sector, in addition to CSU, ENGH and KXS, I also hold DSG, GIB.A and OTC; so I do not think that it is necessary to add SYZ to the mix.
There seems to be some momentum in the base metals sector, as per your response to an earlier question; instead of selecting a particular company, as per your suggestions, I decided to gain exposure via either XBM or ZMT.
I look forward to your comments.
Antoine
