Q: You have previously stated the current price is good entry point for SJ. Given the political climate in the US and the threat of tariffs, would you consider this a buy right now or would you hold off?
Q: Given Acadian Timber's forest lands are situated on both sides of the New Brunswick/Maine border, do you see this putting the company in an advantageous position in the event of a tariff dispute between Canada and the US? Does the company have processing operations on both sides of the border?
Q: Hi Peter and the 5i Team,
PBH continues to be a very frustrating stock which we bought for a RRIF and a TFSA. Even though 5i rates it as a “B” and most analysts rate it highly, for those of us who purchased it when it was trading at much loftier levels, what is it going to take for at least a break-even position?
In the case of the RRIF, PBH was purchased for 96.24 per share. It closed on January 9 with a price of $79.26. When dividends are included, our loss is still $3900.
National Bank rates PBH as “sector perform” with a target price of $99.00. On the 5i website, the stock is trading in a range of $75.67 (year low) and $97.10 (year high). Even with all the positive news surrounding PBH (acquisitions, etc.), the stock is retreating to only $3.59 above its year low.
I read recently that beef prices are at an all-time high. The CBC had a story called “Beef prices hit record high at the grocery store — and on the ranch, too”. Is this somehow holding back PBH?
Is PBH a stock worth holding? Are there any tailwinds on the horizon that could lift PBH out of the doldrums?
Thanks as always for helping me to make informed decisions.

Q: Hi there. As always, we really appreciate your insight into the markets and your thoughts on the evolving landscape. We have held Royal Bank for many years in a portfolio for our grandchildren and it has done well on an annualized return basis. It is a core holding but would you suggest going into a basket possibly being the better move going forward as market uncertainty seems to be growing? Do you have any names we can explore that might better capture future growth and allow a bit more diversification? Do you see Canada as an index finally outperforming the US this year with the sky-high valuations of the Mag 7? Thank-you!

Q: i've done well in 2024 with a number of 5i canadian small and mid cap picks such as CLS, PRL,TVK, WELL, HPS, etc.
I did similarly well with a number of picks in 2021 only to watch those gains evaporate in 2022.
I know 5i prefer not trying to time the market but i'm watching my 2024 winners trend down, some more than others.
I still believe in the fundamentals of my 2024 winners but if the market is trending down is there not some point one should step aside, take the profit and wait for a new or renewed uptrend?

Q: Just reading about this company and they are buying back 2.3 million shares for the purpose of “cancellation”Could you explain to me what this means other than the obvious of helping their EPS and not having to pay those dividends,am I missing anything here I e just never heard that term before. Also what would be a good entry point for this stock for a 1-3 year hold. Thanks

Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited Subordinate Voting Shares (FFH $2,446.96)
-
Intact Financial Corporation (IFC $269.60)
Q: Would you please rank the 3 stocks in order of total return going forward. IFC has the best 10year return, but not so more recently. I currently own IFC and I am concerned about the effects of global warming on future performance. I am leaning toward MFC because of its recovered mojo. I sense that MFC is the most conservative play in the group. Thank you
Q: I hold Boralex and would appreciate your analysis of this company for its growth prospects in 2025.
Q: Follow-up to my question about CIB238 and PSA. Thanks for the explanation. You indicated that CIB238 pays a yield of 4.8% while PSA pays 3.4%. Are these current comparable yields? CIB238 seems high. Could the CIB238 be the yield over the past year while PSA is the current yield? If it was your $100k, which would you invest in to park money?

Q: Good day and happy New Year to all the 5i staff. This is my first, and hopefully last multi stock question.
I am really beginning to take Trump seriously about tariffs. His reasons don’t hold up, but I believe he has unstated reasons of his own for wanting to do so. I don’t usually jump quickly but I have a bad feeling and am thinking of selling some Canadian holdings and buying US. I am wondering what you would think of this?
Even if my fear is justified, though, some of the stocks I am considering may do well under Trump’s regime, anyway. The above stocks are the ones i am considering and i would appreciate your views on whether they might do alright under Tariffs? Any other Canadian stocks you might think will react particularly badly?
Thanks for your great service

Q: Hello,
I understand Warren Buffett recently purchased OXY and I was wondering if you might share a rationale that would favor this stock versus CNQ, TOU,IMO or other CAD producers trading at approx. equally low 52 week levels, with higher mkt cap, dividends and dividend growth.
Thank you and all the best to you and your families in 2025.

Q: How do this companies forward PE and cash flow multiples compare to those of its 2 closest US competitor and compared to its own historical #'s. Has it made progress on its profitability and ROIC measures which as you have said the company uses to measure its own performance. Would you buy it now with the thought that the freight recession is largely over, and the metrics previously mentioned are attractive, or would you wait until after January 20th when we find out more about tariffs and how that will impact TFI?
