Q: What consumer cyclical companies do you recommend (US or Canadian) for a long term buy/hold. More generally, what is the difference between consumer cyclical and consumer defensive categories; is it important to differentiate in a portfolio?

Q: Hi, current in my portfolio of 13 stocks + 2 ETF I have some good performing stocks that are > 5% position, TXN is 10.3%, DIS is 8.40%, EWZS is 9.37% and ADM is 8.54%. 25% of my holdings are in TECH (3 stocks + 1 etf). Do you feel comfortable with keeping these stocks with current positions or could I trim it to reduce risk ? I don't have many exposure to financials and consumer cyclical sectors. Can you suggest me growth stocks in these 2 sectors in US and CAN ? In healthcare I have only ABBV, I would like to have other good options here for growth and medium risk. I have +20 years horizon.

Q: Hi 5i,

I'm concerned with all the sabre rattling leading to a US/China trade war. Of particular concern are American companies that are needing China as the engine for growth. 1. Do you think this is a valid concern? 2. Would you position your portfolio more domestically/defensively for a trade war? 3. What would be some good alternatives to these three companies that are more domestic (or Western) centric for growth?

Q: Hi,
Having held some cash aside, waiting for a pullback - I am now wondering which companies I should focus on purchasing first during the downturn? Obviously I am looking for those that are good, solid companies with growth potential. Dividends is nice feature, but not a requirement if the future prospects for the company are strong and debt is low or non existent. I do not currently have any REITs and only AQN in utilities, ENB in energy as I lean towards growth more than income and usually overweight in stronger sectors and industries. Please provide some suggestions, US or Cdn, that have caught your interest recently, as I always value your suggestions.

Q: Cons Disc [CD] portfolio target is 9%; current holdings 1.5% ea AMZN, SHOP [technically IT, but now more similar to AMZN? if not, then only 3% allocated], and CMCSA. 5+ yrs growth goal. To add and/ or new buys?
1. e-commerce: AMZN, SHOP, others?
2. retail watch list [WList]: advise re LULU, NKE, SBUX, others?
3. TV/ connected WList: DIS, ROKU & TLRA [both IT, but ultimately tied to Consumer spending]
4. Or, XLY and/ or TDB 424 Fund [Entertainment & Communication holds some Cons Disc, but not 100%] or other.
This is a mix but would appreciate your advice with sector allocation.

Q: Hello, what do you think of Foot Locker (FL) right now? If you had to choose between Nike and Foot Locker as an investment in the US cyclical sector, which one would that be and why? Q: My apologies - I forgot to say that I was looking to invest in that thesis with US stocks. I'd like to invest in the thesis that low-mid level income earners are going to start having more income based on a resurgent economy, lower taxes, and a very tight labor market along with reduced immigration. Can you suggest 3-4 companies that would really benefit from this scenario?

Q: Hello,

What are your thoughts on Nike? I read their quarterly report and I personally believe that although they have an increase in competition from Adidas and Under Armour, that investor's are overly pessimistic. Nike is a great brand and if you look back long enough; have they not created tremendous amounts of share holder value?
