Q: A family member would like to build a US dollar portfolio with US stocks. My thought would be to do it along the lines of the 5iR Cdn Balance Portfolio. For example, JPMorgan would be the US stock for the BNS. With this in mind, and being able to tolerate risk and for a long-term intention, like 10 years, what would you suggest the 15+ position US portfolio would look like?....Thanks...Tom

Q: Hi Peter and Team
With the expectation that both the Canadian and US markets should do well for the next two years, can you suggest 5 CDN and 5 US stocks to consider for long term purchase in reasonably well balanced registered portfolios (RRIF and TFSA) that now have significant (>15%) cash positions. Thanks for the ongoing support.

Q: Hello Peter, Ryan, and Team,

Wondering if you think it's still worth putting some money into the re-opening trade via one of the airlines. I'm considering reducing my position in REAL in order to do so. Although REAL is relatively cheap right now, its price trend is still moving lower. I know you like Southwest Airlines, but Air Canada's share price is nowhere near pre-pandemic levels, while LUV is already there. I have been reluctant to invest in the airlines, as I'm convinced that business travel will never return to the same levels. Many companies have finally realized it's often unnecessary and that cost-effective, technology-based alternatives are preferred. However, I think the pent-up leisure travel demand will likely make up for this on a short-term basis. Can I please have your thoughts?
Thank you.

Q: Dear Peter and Ryan.
I am confident in global recovery after deployment of the vaccines and would like to allocate fund to Recovery play in my RRSP. It is long term investment but it would be nice to see some gain in the short term too. Can you please recommend a few companies or ETF in CAD or USD?

Thank you,

Q: I would like to start a position in 2-3 companies that should have a nice boost as the travel industry resumes. It could be US or Canada. Can you suggest 4-5 to look at please?
Also, is there an etf that would embody my theme and would benefit as the industry comes back?
Thanks as always for your great advice.

Q: Great article today re the "Phoenix Market". With that in mind, could you please suggest a US stock or two in each major industry sector that you feel is well positioned for growth in the next 5-10 years that you would nevertheless be comfortable stepping into today? (Even if just half a position) Please feel free to deduct the number of credits you deem appropriate.

Q: BAM.A is now trading at $49+ , has the stock recovered to the pre-pandemic levels OR do you think that it still has upside.

Also at this point, would airline stocks be better or the cruise lines, which has more upside ?

My strategy is to buy airline/cruise stocks now....sell in 1-3 years and then move that money to something like BAM.... what do you think of this?

Q: Hi, my respected 5i team
Could you please recommend some solid names(US and Canadian markets) focusing on post-Covid theme play? I would like to take advantage of the price decline due to the pandemic lock down, some solid names that will be the survivors.

Thanks in advance!

Q: Hello 5i team
As a front line (nearly retired) physician, I recently received a Covid 19 immunization. It's difficult to express the REMARKABLE sense of gratitude and euphoria that I observed among everyone involved . Suddenly, we felt liberated from the danger of this scourge that we face daily. Our next exciting job is to immunize our fellow citizens as fast as humanly possible and as we do, this euphoria will spread to society at large.
After my immunization I bought a new car and we're booking our fall and winter travel plans. This manic behaviour, I believe, represents the tip of the iceberg for pent up demand which will be unleashed upon the world.
At the risk of being labelled a mercenary can you identify some sectors which are still beaten up and likely to surge-I'm thinking energy but other suggestions welcome (prefer etf's with a dividend to keep me invested until the recovery occurs-would supplement with high conviction stocks)
Thank you. As always, I value your opinions, Regards gary
