Q: Hi, I have ACN and VRSN on my watchlist and am wondering what your thoughts are on these two tech stocks, which you would prefer and why. There are no previous questions on VRSN but ACN has gotten favourable comments from you in the past.
I have some tech stocks that have gotten pummelled lately (ie. DOCU) and am thinking these might provide some growth over the years without the same volatility as some others.
Thanks for your insights,
Doris
Could you please provide your thoughts on the relative valuation of this company currently and if you believe their business prospects are still solid long term?
Q: Hi, I have owned Intel for many years but lately it has been a disappointment, I sold half my position last year and purchased AMD which has done well. What's your advice, should I sell INTC and purchase SOXX or NVDA or continue to hold it, looking for the best growth prospects.
Q: In your opinion how much of the inflation/interest rate fear is already reflected in the market. What is the best advice to feel better about this shift if growth stocks are a good part of a portfolio.
Thank you for the hand holding that you all do.
Peter
Q: I have read in your Q&A that AW.UN.CA has non-eligible dividends and is best in a registered account. By that do you mean both TFSA and RRSP? I'm interested in starting a position in my TFSA. Thank you.
Q: With the merger with Agnico pending, I can sell KL for tax loss and buy back after the merger. What is the next exdivident date for KL and do you anticipate that the price will be lower after the merger? Thanks for all you do, Cheers, Geoff
Q: Unsure if this comment will be allowed.
My 10 year old money had some savings he wouldn't need for 18 months so he set up a GIC at Oaken Financial. Business as usual until his birthday this weekend. Oaken sent out a birthday card with a $5 gift card. In this day of form letters of thank you for your business, I'm impressed. Personal touch from an institution.
Q: Hi 5i
I thought I had a handle on the Mutual Fund Changes occurring currently but seems not.
Talking about the availability of some mutual Funds...........Banks preferring to not make available products from other firms..........so Advisors don't have to learn about them as KYC Rules require.
Here's the thing. I just tried to buy (add to current) BMO Small Cap Fund (BMO31136) through BMO Investorline and find I am no longer able to do so because of these changes.
I am getting the sense there are changes going on that are not positive for investors despite the desire of the Regulator.
Can you point me to an article/ information or tell me what's going on with Mutual Fund availability? As I try to deploy capital today and cannot, it does not feel positive to this investor.
Q: Hello Peter,
Nuvei just came out with a release about the short seller. I dont think it says much more than what they previously announced. What did shopfiy do that was different to refute the short seller? At this point, it seems that Nuvei is stuck in the $75 range a far cry before the report. Would you just wait it out for now as the company is supported by large private firms and insider ownership seems decent. As well , analysts seem to be endorsing the company. Also , i would appreciate your view on Tecsys and CareRx . Thanks very much.
Q: I've been waiting to initiate a position in either AC or CAE for a minimum two year hold but I can't decide on which one. My brain tells me this is a good time to enter either or both, but I am concerned about the sector in general.
Can you give me some reasons for both companies why one should buy today and some reasons that gives one pause on the names?
Of the two, does 5i have a preference and would you start a position today in either name?
Q: Main question: Is there a sense of roughly how long it will take 'clear' the class action suits being brought against LSPD?
Also:
- Do you have a sense of what a defense would cost? 5-10 million?
- Are these lawsuits enough of a distraction to *impact performance* or will they simply be an exercise for accounting and a few of lawyers?
- Lastly, what is the success rate of these sorts of lawsuits in extracting compensation?
Q: Hi Team,
With index's near record highs it is very frustrating to have my portfolio down 20% over the last quarter, and still dropping (holding mostly growthy tech). I have read recently that even though the index's are hitting records, nearly half the underlying stocks in the index's are down 20% or more from highs. My question is now..do I keep holding or make the switch to the interest rate increase "friendly" stocks. My initial thoughts are that since my holdings are already down 20-50% on some of these names and the stories in the companies have not changed (other than the short reports on LSPD and NVEI), is it better to simply hold at this point and wait for better days, or should I be selling into the weakness and re adjusting my portfolio? Or...should I buck the trend and add to these dips. Seems like many long term opportunites come from adding to beat down names in times such as this. I am overweight tech, mostly 5i tech favourites.
Also, taking everything into consideration; what are some of your top ideas for 2022 TFSA contributions as of today that you would be looking at, either US or Cnd. My timeframe is 10yrs plus until retirement. Thanks
Q: Admittedly I emotionally attached to BYD given the stellar gains over the time I've held in my kids RESP. I see that they have their challenges and seem to be out of favour with the market. At what entry price to you see a good opportunity?
and since the growth is expected by capital appreciation, do you recommend the stock be held in a RSP or TFSA account?
Q: The stock has perfermed extremly well but it's on a downward trend from a peak last October near $265 and now it's at $195. What's the reason for the decline and should this stock be retained as a hold within a portfolio?
Q: Under present circumstances I find it difficult to determine at what stage we are in the business cycle. Could you overlay the business cycle and market cycle and indicate where you think we are and how this will influence one’s investment thesis?
