Q: I own ECN Senior Unsecured 6% Debentures maturing on Dec. 31, 2025. They are currently trading at 84 cents on the dollar, corresponding to an annualized Yield-to-Maturity of about 18%. I am concerned that this extremely high yield indicates serious doubts as to their ability to repay this debt (in cash). What is your opinion as to the viability of ECN?

Q: hello 5i:
A search of this DB indicates only one previous question asked.
At a 6% yield, a chart that doesn't show much volatility at all, and knowing you like the company and its management, it seems to be a security that would garner much more attention. Can you run through the pros and cons of buying /owning it? The current price looks attractive (to the untrained eye). We already own shares of ECN, and did very well with it over the years.
thanks

Q: Hi - I'm trying to beef up the fixed income side of my portfolio and non-convertible debentures such as the ones above look like a very interesting alternative to bonds. Their yields are >5.5% and CSU.DB even adjusts its distribution for inflation each year. What am I missing here? It seems like people should be all over these, but their prices don't reflect that.
