Q: Hi!
My question is around what to do with high growth, unprofitable technology companies that were once huge winners. If one has a small portion allocated to these companies, does it make sense to hold and one day things could turn and these stocks can gain again. There is so much talk to switch to value/cyclical/materials and that trade can last for a very long time. My guess is you favour diversification which I have, but of course wonder if these unprofitable tech names can go down another 50 percent and will they ever recover?? Which of the high growth unprofitable tech names would you be adding to or would you only add to profitable tech like Meta, Amazon, Google, etc...
Thank you!

Q: Given the increasing implied VOL in options, what are your favourite names in CAD and USD for covered call strategies?

Looking for stocks that you already like that have reasonably liquid options (I know harder in CAD) and you think have excellent bounce back potential and wouldn't mind owning for 2-3 years. Thanks

Q: Hi 5i,
In a recent question on Apple’s new privacy policy on iOS, you said that FB will be impacted as it is an App on the iphone, but GOOG is largely unaffected as most of its ad revenue is derived from its search engine. In another question, you mentioned that GOOG is also implementing similar changes to its Android system. With the big guns tightening their privacy settings, will the smaller players, such as MGNI and AT, see a significant drag on their revenues? MGNI and AT are off big time but it may be more the market backdrop.
Thanks again.

Q: In response to a question from Grant on Feb 24 you said "...we think GOOG is one of the easier stocks to buy right now" (re initiating a full position). 25 year-old looking to contribute $6000 to a TFSA, long-term time horizon. Given GOOG is currently trading at around $2700USD (approx $3500CAD) and with only $6k to work with, what do you think of using the CDR alternative (GOOG.NE at about $23CAD) instead, if looking to invest as much as possible of the $6k into GOOG? Was also considering BAM.A (already has some in the portfolio). I know they're both good companies but which of the two would you side with long-term if only choosing one? Thanks.

Q: Good morning 5i
I am well diversified in my portfolio and so i am looking to buy opportunistically into this dip. So sectors don’t matter. What do you see as the best opportunity currently? Also, your analysis tells me that i need more weight outside of Canada and the US. With this turmoil would Europe be a good choice. If so, what etf would you use?
Thanks

Q:

Every morning i think of Warren & Charley dipping there cookies into there tea and having a good chuckle on these HIGH GROWTH companies getting a good spanking. A lot of these of these stocks are never going to come back as the field is just too crowded that they are competing in. I was in the market in 2000 and you never heard again of the high growth companies with no earnings again, you lost 100 % of your investment. Warren & Charlie might be turtles but who wins the race

Q: Hello 5i, so much doom and gloom and grumpy people, I get it haha but be mad at yourselves not 5i!!

I could have sold Roku Shop and LSPD at all time highs but I also owned them before COVID and topped up near covid lows so not selling on the way up to all time highs in 2021 worked quite well but being greedy and anchored to certain prices did not end well :)

Thanks for all your wisdom over the years I sure wish I listened the many times you stressed keeping weightings at a reasonable level as much as you like a stock I shall try to heed that more often.

Let’s look at this positively if anyone has 5 plus years or more investing how can you not be excited to pick some possibly massive winners for the future. It’s like March 2020 opportunities but some look better and could be even more exciting when things settle down long term.

If you had to pick 5 growth stocks that you could own for the next 5 years the goal of course is capital appreciation and I’m not asking you to pick and purchase the stock today but if you had to pick the stocks today but had the next 12 months to purchase at any pace you want what 5 stocks would choose? Canadian or American sector doesn’t matter nor does risk.

Q: We know uncertainty helps the markets drop. With Russia saying they are drawing back troops and NATO and USA say they are building up, one could anticipate uncertainty ahead. With this in mind, is there any advice for which type of stock might be the best to buy on a future dip?

Q: Hi 5i Team,

I would like to ask about the GOOG fractional shares traded on the NEO exchange.

Do you views these shares any differently than their underlying share?

How they would be treated in light of the upcoming split of the common shares?

Are these types of fractional shares subject to withholding taxes if held inside a TFSA?

Thanks for the great service!

Colin
