Q: Hi,
You’ve mentioned a lot of small caps that have already had significant growth in share price. What are some small cap names that have not yet landed on everyone’s radar?

CGX used to be a market darling prior to Covid 19. Their long serving CEO is slated to retire in 2026. According to a BNN guest, the CEO's employment contract has a clause whereby he would receive a payment of $12 Million CDN if the company was sold prior to his retirement. Prior to the pandemic, Cineworld agreed to purchase Cineplex for $2.8 Billion. That of course fell through and CGX received a settlement of $1.23 Billion from Cineworld.
The BNN guest felt that CGX shareholders would fetch north of $30 per share if a transaction were to take place.
I just was curious as to your opinion of this situation ?

Q: Do you have any views on Alpha Picks, run by Steven Cress? He has an extensive background focused on quant. It has only been around for about 2 1/2 years, and those have been exceptional market years, but the results surpass the S&P by a wide margin.

Q: Can you give us the total returns for the S&P 500 and TSX benchmarks? Also why are there so many different numbers reported for these on many different sites, and even each AI has different numbers. I'd like the returns including dividends, since I don't know why you would compare to a benchmark excluding dividends. Thx

Q: I recently decided that this drone firm was worth a roll of the dice. Drones are clearly the weapon of the future as we're witnessing in Ukraine. Canada needs to get up to speed with this technology and according to the corporate marketing blurbs it is supposed to be happening, although at a choppy pace. I know it's a small cap with the inherent risks. What do you think? Can the Federal defense dept. get their act together and help to nurture this important industry sector?

Q: Happy New Year!
Do you think the current share price of Brookfield (BN) already reflects their push into AI‑related infrastructure — power, land, data‑center buildouts — as well as the upcoming NVIDIA‑aligned chip and data‑center initiatives? I’m also curious whether the recent partnership with Figure, where Brookfield will host and support humanoid robotics training, is meaningfully priced in.
One thing I’ve noticed is that Brookfield’s revenue and EPS seem to jump around — up one year, down the next — even though the company appears to be growing overall. I’m trying to understand whether this volatility is just a function of their business model or something to be more cautious about.
From your perspective, what would be a reasonable entry point for the stock? And if you were to give Brookfield an overall rating (A, A‑, B, etc.), where would you place it? It seems to be a favorite among many investors, so I’d really value your thoughts. Thanks.

Q: Given that I have no idea what the US (Trump) will do next, I am reluctant to invest new funds in equities. So I have the sense that I should increase my bond and gold exposure for the near future. I would appreciate your comments on this strategy.

Q: What are your thoughts on PPH (VanEck Pharmaceutical ETF? Symbol not found when trying to look up this ETF?

Q: Answer at your convenience. I have had a small position in IJR for a couple of years and was going to start adding to it in the new year. However, checking back on past questions I see that the small/mid cap etfs noted above have been mentioned fairly positively. Would any of these be preferred to IJR or would a basket of say, 3 in total (with or without IJR) in this space be a better approach. Could you give brief comments, in order to compare, and which way would you lean if you were making
the choice ?
