Q: I hold UNITY and APPS , now less than 1% and at a substantial loss as part of a US $ registered account tilted to growth and, intentionally, heavy in tech. In addition to the above two, it has the following holdings, with % shown of TOTAL (U.S. & Cdn) portfolio, followed by % of profit/loss, Our Canadian portfolio is balanced and much larger.
META .75% (+21%) , TEAM 1.9% (0%), CRWD 2.7% (-20%),
QCOM 3.7% (+45%), MSFT 3.8%(+116%), GOOG 4.5%(+6%), and NVDA 8.8% (+200%).
I am looking at selling U and APPS and perhaps TEAM (?) , increasing META to about 1.5 and looking for something new. Maybe SMCI - but after the parabolic increase in the last month maybe that needs to be on a pullback. Anything about this that you would do differently., including alternatives to SMCI ?
Take as many question credits as needed - many thanks.
Q: With the large caps largely moving the S&P500, would you put new money into SPY or RSP (equal weight ETF)? Looking for growth, short and long term. Please give a short reasoning for your answer. Thanks in advance.
Q: What are your thoughts on GDI? I know you still hold it in your growth portfolio but the stock has pretty much traded in a flat range for the last 2.5 years. Up 32% but only around a 1% position. I'm patient but thinking of selling and adding to other names with more growth potential, names like LMN, KXS, ATZ, CROX, WELL, NVEI, TOI, SHOP, etc.... What are the catalysts to move this stock and what do you still like/dislike about the fundamentals? Thanks!
Q: hello 5i:
In our various portfolios, we own DIVO, SCHD and MTUM. MOAT is not owned. I've done a fairly deep dive trying to compare the 4 etf's as I'd like to consolidate some of our single companies eg. MRK, LMT etc etc into ETFs to simplify things, and in the case of the RRIFs, to enhance yield. By my metrics, DIVO seems to come out on top on a risk/reward basis and a good balance of yield with growth. I've included MOAT as I'm interested in the concept (but not sold on the ETF). Can you confirm my findings? Would you agree, or what could you add to my findings? Is there a source (Morningstar does a good job, but not great) that would allow me to better compare risk/return of the listed etf's?
I realize there are a few questions here: take as many credits as necessary to answer as I have a lot banked.
thanks
Paul L
Q: May I please have 5i's view of VTS and its business model. Do you consider it a good stock for a RIF account, and is the attractive yield sustainable?
Long time holder of CAR.UN, and although I like it, watching TD go lower and lower seems like a buying opportunity to me, and I know you view TD as having potential over the medium/long-term from these levels. Seems to me like there is greater price appreciation potential, and a greater dividend while things settle down.
I know they are different sectors, but what are your general thoughts on this potential switch? 5 years from now I think it may look smart..... Thanks. - Jeff
I am not good in coming up with limericks! If I were, I would somehow use Peter/Ryan and TD/BNS/BN in a limerick ! If I said you folks sound like a broken record it would be rude. May I say you sing that lovely tune that consists of notes TD/BNS/BN/RY always! Faithfully endorsing a buy on the above mentioned stocks.
But here is my question based on my mild bewilderment! On one hand your faith in BN is linked strongly to Mr. Bruce Flatt's managerial skills. But on the other hand BNS's CEO didn't meet your approval and you were at best very tepid in welcoming him! TD's foray into the M&A domain was a disaster!
Having said that my faith in your suggestions is unshakable! With this in mind, can you rank order these stocks in terms of priority of buying at this stage. How long do you think one has to wait for these stocks to return to decent price range. a year or two or three? Your crystal ball is lot clearer than mine!!
These are going to be held in our TFSAs and plan to buy and forget about them for a while! Keepers and not traders!
Q: Hi 5i,
I own HTL and hope you can provide your thoughts on the long term prospects for this company. It seems to be stuck in a trading range for the last year but did very well during 2021 to 2022. I thought the business was very interesting. thanks
Q: I have a small position in MDB and I'm uncertain to add to or just hold. After reviewing past answers I wonder if your views have changed. Are you more positive? Analyst reviews from Scotia McCloud are so so. To my eyes, the technicals look good - actually better than its peers. Does MDB have an advantage in the market? Would you prefer another company competitor with more torque? Thanks..........Lionel
