Q: HSAV is a new offering by Horizons that looks similar to PSA but is a corporate class fund (estimated gross yield 2.25%). I would like to hold HSAV in an unregistered account - can you provide any info regarding this ETF. Also, HCRE is about 1 year old, but has only about 26M in assets and an average trading volume of about 1,700 - thanks for any comments/info you can provide re this ETF!!

Q: I'm interested in somehow purchasing shares or ownership in SpaceX which is privately listed at the moment. I know that Baron Partners Fund (BPTRX) has ownership in the U.S. but I haven't found a way to purchase Baron Funds from my current self-directed TD account. Do you know of any Canadian brokers or ways to buy into Baron funds?

Q: In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, there's no question that some of the big US names will experience a direct hit to their bottom line. I am currently considering purchasing Starbucks and Disney shares when shortsighted Mr. Market starts selling off.

Firstly, do you agree that there is an opportunity to be had for capital appreciation in the two companies I mentioned.

Secondly, can you please recommend three or more other US or Canadian companies with a huge presence in China (or Asia) that are directly affected by the pandemic but will most certainly continue to do well in the future given its durable competitive advantage?

Q: Another question about CCL. I've been a long time holder but only at a half position. I've been holding off adding as the share price has not done a whole lot for the last 3 years, even prior to the big drop last week. I've been waiting for signs of a breakout and it looks like i got it - although in the wrong direction! To be honest the earnings report did not inspire confidence with negative organic growth. And I believe the previous quarter before this one was fairly uninspiring as well. So with a lot of good companies out there that are executing well and in good/growing markets what would be the rationale for still holing on to CCL? Seems it will be dead money at best for the next little while.

Q: I have a "friend" promoting this stock. I am always leery of these "tips" but admit I do look into them to see if there is any potential merit in a speculative play. I cannot find any meaningful info on this company. Can you share with me what you know about it.

Q: I am continuing to hold VET in my long-term portfolio. I bought it originally at 18.27 and am enjoying a 13% yield. I am not overweight in energy. With the recent declines, it is tempting to buy more. What are your thoughts on VET these days? Do you feel confident in their ongoing ability to pay (and potentially grow) the dividend? Q: Hi guys,
What do you think of GH's quarter and the guidance provided? Prior to this weeks market decline the stock seemed to be slowly moving up. Once the COVID-19 issues are resolved and the market starts to recover, do you still see significant upside to this company and when do you think they may start showing a profit?

Q: Re: Q concerning 5i patron's grandson with 2k to invest; should it be placed inside a TFSA?

My two adult / student offspring were recently in a similar situation and I agree with all that you said but would like to add some additional info:
- TD bank is currently running a promotion that if a person opens a new TFSA, they will have $100 placed inside the account in Mar 20' (promotion ends early Mar I believe)
- If the TFSA is opened at a TD branch (not a brokerage account) then there is no fee
- The TFSA account can have GICs, mutual funds and/or a cash component however, only a GIC or mutual fund will qualify the account for the $100 bonus

For each of my kids, I had them buy a one yr GIC (approx 1.6% as I recall) and place some short term cash in the cash component of the TFSA; the cash earns approx 1%.

You are right in saying that there will not really be much benefit to be gained but there are some intangibles to be considered: this is a great financial learning experience for a young person, the $ is placed out of their immediate grasp until they are more likely to need it and $100 is a terrific bonus for a small account.
