Q: I like to purchase some US traded companies but I have no American cash. If a person wants to buy $10 to $15,000 (CAD) of a US traded stock, is it better to purchase a CDR or convert to US dollars at the current exchange rate? Does the exchange rate, or size of purchase make any difference when deciding which is the best course of action?
Thanks

Q: Hi Team,

What are your favorite Canadian and international energy companies with direct exposure to the commodity price. A growing dividend, even modest, is preferred.

Thanks!

Q: These stocks are held in my wife's RRIF - just turned 71 - start withdrawing 2026. QSR, NTR ,GSY & GRT.UN small positions. GSY added this year. Thinking of selling GRT.UN - stock has not done much & very small dividend increaser, QSR (500 shs) small position - not big dividend grower - thinking of selling, NTR held fora while - up a fair bit 44%, 500 shs - sell? Comments if you agree with my analysis and if so, what should buy or add to this account?

Q: May I have your comments on DVAX? They seem to have strong earnings but is their outlook for 2026 negative? Please also comment on their cash flow, debt, dividend sustainability, share buyback, insider ownership and another aspects you feel are noteworthy. The stock charts red because it has declined 16% YTD. I do not own the stock. The stock seems to be too small to be a value trap but I am a little puzzled why it can’t seem to gain traction.
Thank you,
Jim

Q: I own these Mid Cap oils that have generally defied the downward oil pressures in 2025 and performed well. All with the exception of Baytex are in a significant gain position.

For the past few months i continue to hear of Oil surpluses, and prices in the 50s or even hi 40s in 2026 before outgrowing the oil surplus in 2027.

Do you think it advisable to sell some of this position and look at re-entry in mid to later 2026 to crystallize some of 2025's returns on these mid caps?

Q: Hello, I invested in the ETF BUG about a year ago. I had compared it to HACK and thought that BUG was more a pure play on cybersecurity than HACK, which has AVGO, NOC and GD as top 10 holdings (AVGO at #1 with 12%). After a year, BUG has barely moved whereas HACK has moved over 10%, probably because of the 3 stocks I mentioned. To what extend these 3 stocks belong in a cybersecurity ETF? If so, should I switch to HACK? Do you believe these 3 stocks will still perform very well in the years ahead? I have plenty of NVDA, so it was never my intention to buy AVGO on its own. Thanks.

Q: It appears as if there could be a supply shortfall in copper in 2026 and with critical minerals being in demand do you see XETM as a way to invest in both copper and critical minerals. On the other hand is there stocks that would be a better copper play and other stocks that would be better in the critical mineral area than XETM.

Thanks

Q: hello 5i:
the Brookfield companies listed above make up close to 9% of our holdings. In your opinion, is that overweighting one entity too much? Any of the companies could be traded, but finding a comparable, or "better" company in that particular sector eg. utilities, financials, etc; is difficult. Your thoughts, please.
thanks

Q: I’m hoping you may be able to identify a top 10 list of O&G-adjacent companies that could be considered the sector’s “pick-and-shovel” CO’s that could benefit from medium and long term production increases and not so dependant on the commodity price increasing such as what O&G producers are. If possible, please rank from highest to lowest conviction for stock price appreciation over the next 5 years. Thank you.

Q: Hello 5i!

I have held VRT for 2.5 years and done well and have a full position in it. It has drifted lower as AI waffles around and other AI related players get more attention.
Do you see VRT as a “must own” for the space or do you have another stock in this space with more momentum and growth potential?

Also, Would you endorse selling a half position of VRT to buy ENS?

Sending all you fine folks at 5i the warmest wishes for the holidays. Thank you for all of your guidance throughout the years. It is appreciated. Enjoy some time off!
