Q: I am considering selling my PBH position and using the proceeds to add to ATD. I'm not concerned about the sector differences, particularly, and it looks like this could be a good time to add ATD, notwithstanding the uncertainties around the Carrefour offer. Is ATD in some ways like BAM, rather unique Canadian companies that can play skillfully on the biggest stages? What are your thoughts on such a switch, from one good company to another? Thanks, as always.

Q: can you pls explain the $$$ benefits to ATD shareholders with this announced strategic partnership? How much does a partnership make in terms of revenues and profit on the bottom line? And how long do shareholders have to wait to see these benefits? the conference call may answer some of these questions, but have you seen other deals of this nature result in immediate shareholder value or should we sell the news.

Q: I find this strange that ATD is down since the offer was annouced and Carrefour has not increased to the offer price. It seems that even the Carrefour shareholders don't think it will go through, so why such a drop in ATD? I don't think this entire deal will go through, the government of France will not allow the sale of the grocery side, but it's possible that Carrefour will be able to sell of their convenience stores, which is what ATD normally wants. What do you think about this option?

Q: I am looking to "trim the fat" from my TFSA, which currently holds 20 stocks: ATD, BCE, BMO, BNS, CCO, CM, ENB, FFH, PDYPF, INO.UN, LAS, NXE, NWC, NA, NTR, PEY, PZA, MJJ, TRP, WELL. Are there any positions that raise red flags with you? In addition, could you suggest 3 or 4 value picks suitable for a long-term hold (20 years plus)?
Thank you!

Q: Hi,

I just purchased ATD.B at $42 thinking I was getting a good price. I guess not. I started with a 3% position so I still have room to add. Would you add on this news? It seems that this French grocer operates a number of convenience stores and has a footprint in Asia. Could this be a reason for the acquisition? Not sure why make a pitch for the whole Company if only parts of it are strategic to ATD.B.

Thanks,
Jason

Q: I am an investor with a fairly balanced, income oriented securities portfolio with a relatively high weighting to financials. I am thinking of adding the securities noted and am interested in your thoughts on each, as well as how you would rank them on a relative basis. Thanks for your thoughts.

Q: Part 2 of my question about year end adjustments to my portfolio. I have fairly small positions in 10 of these stocks (0.6% to 1.1%), and no position in DOO. I would like to add to several of these using the cash generated from reducing larger positions in some holdings. Looking for best long term total return, 5+ years. Sector, and size of company not a major consideration, in a well diversified portfolio. I like growth, I like dividends. Looking at ATD.B, BAM.A, CAR.UN, DIR.UN, DOO, GRT.UN, ITP, LNF, TCN, TECK.B, SLF. Thank you.

Q: Alimentation Couche-Tard:

In a past question you had indicated that you did not feel this would become a "yield stock" in the future. So I am assuming there is still plenty of runway for this company with their present business model. Or do you think they will need to expand on this model to continue growth ? I know they've entered the Asian market. Perhaps this is their answer (?).

Final question. If shareholders are anxious for an acquisition, do they have an acceptable balance sheet at this time to pull one off in the near term?

Q: Hi Peter and Staff
Reference a question I just sent on industrials regarding my investment philosophy vis a vis risk level and number of stocks (ETF of my own for each sector).

I need to subside other income by about the same amount as my dividends earned however in using the water the flowers and pull the weeds I invest my dividends each month and sell something(s) for my draws.

Tomorrow I will have some funds for Consumer Staples......

1, If you were to own the 4 above, in what % would you own them?

2. IF you were to add for consideration WMT, PG and COST, please regig the % between the 7

Thanks for all you do

Dennis
