Q: Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to all at 5i!!!
Thanks to all for another amazing year of guidance from 5i!!! Everyone should be very proud of the job they do for the members!!!
This question is not time sensitive, so do not rush to answer at all.
Sometime in the New Year is just fine.
Question:
In the article "Inflation is Not Going Back" by Barry Ritzholz the information pertains very specifically to the u.s. The Canadian economy may be linked to, but is not the same as, the american. Therefore, what specifically Canadian interpretations or conclusions might one draw from that data, or equivalent Canadian data? Or, do we accept those conclusions as being equally applicable to Canada?
Just curious.....
Best Wishes to all at 5i Research!!
Cheers,
Mike

Q: I recently heard of the $BPENER as a marker for oil sentiment. It is carried by Stock Charts here: https://stockcharts.com/sc3/ui/?s=%24BPENER
Are you familiar with this? Can you explain it to me as much as you know? How it works? And how to best way you can use it? Or best not at all?

Q: I’m looking at buying into one of ATRL, STN or WSP. I am struck by the low PE of ATRL vs the other 2 (5.6, 30.9 and 36.7 respectively).
I understand this is due to higher earnings this year from ATRL. Is this likely to continue or is it an anomaly?
Which would you buy today for a long-term hold?

Q: I’m doing a fairly major portfolio clean-up and account optimization exercise.
Specifically, I’m removing dividend-oriented and income-generating stocks from my TFSA and RRSP that are better suited to a non-registered account, and reallocating TFSA/RRSP capital to assets that benefit most from tax sheltering.
At a broad level, I’d appreciate your perspective on:
• Which CAD and USD names are best suited to an RRSP (e.g., U.S. dividend payers, global compounders, cyclicals, etc.)
• Which CAD and USD names are best suited to a TFSA (long-term growth, compounding, low income leakage)
I’m less interested in yield optimization and more focused on long-term after-tax efficiency and proper account placement.
If helpful, feel free to answer at a category level (e.g., “U.S. dividend aristocrats,” “Canadian compounders,” etc.) or with specific examples you think are particularly well-suited.
Thanks — looking forward to your thoughts.

Q: Hello Team,
Considering the facts that:
Lumentum (LITE) is the High-Alpha play. It has the most momentum and the most critical technology (OCS), but it is currently considered "high risk/high reward" due to its vertical price chart.
Coherent (COHR) is the Catch-up play. It is favored by analysts who see "underappreciated upside." If Coherent can prove it is winning a larger share of the 1.6T transceiver market in its next earnings call (early 2026), its stock could "gap up" to match Lumentum's valuation.
For a 10 year investment, would you prioritize one over another? Or would you buy both?
Thank you for help all of us become richer and more informed in 2025. I wish you all at 5i a merry holiday season and a happy 2026. :)

Q: Lots of talk lately about the MJ sector given Trump's recent announcements. It has been almost 3 years since you spoke about HITI so would appreciate an update.
By all means, wait until January for this and have a great holiday.
