Q: MFC: bought small position earlier this year at a good price (2500 shs) so up a fair bit. I also hold SLF (long time) which has been a stellar performer.
MFC announced a deal of some kind to-day which, quite frankly, I do not understand.
Why has this stock been such a poor performer vs SLF and is there any hope for it going forward?

Q: Hi, Further to the Tax-Loss selling question on BCE, the Ex-Dividend Date is Dec 14th. While selling/booking the capital loss, would it make more sense to sell between Dec 14 to Dec 27, so not to lose 97 Cents dividend, and then buy back after 30 days ? Generally, my experience is that, on the Ex-Dividend date, the stock price drops, but recovers to previous levels, within a few days. Thank You

Q: I'm trying to understand why HURA has outperformed URA by almost 20% this year. Holdings like Cameco and the Sprott Physical Uranium Trust Fund that have moved alot seem to have relatively similar weightings in both funds. NAK Kazatomprom AO - GDR hasn't had as strong returns YTD and is actually overweighted in HURA vs. URA. I don't think the USD-CAD has had any major impacts on the returns this year. What am I missing?

Also I think Cameco has had exceptional returns in 2023 far outpacing the ETF, do you think the others will catch up over time?

Q: Hi, Regarding your recent addition of Intac Financial to Balanced Portfolio, could you please elaborate more on the rationale for this selection, as this company has not been discussed much on this forum. Property and Casualty Insurance has been talked about a lot by Portfolio Managers lately and in their opinion, projected to be the fastest growing sector in Insurance business. So, it should be a timely addition to the 5i portfolio!!

Who are Intac's main competitors and how does IFC compare with them in terms of market share, growth trajectory and valuation ? What are the major components of IFC's business and their geographical presence ? What's your take on company's recent decision for selling their UK Personal Line of business to Admiral, as, looks like, the news caused some concern among investors resulting a bit of selling in the stock, over past 2 days. This is more of big picture and history based question even though I am old enough know that the past performance doesn't mean anything going forward!

Has there been a period when Small cap growth or value stocks outperformed the Large caps growth/value during deflation/stagflation, recession with with a capital R or a lower case r, or even in a nominal sideways market? Do you see such a scenario evolving in 2024/2025? If so what are the ETFs that one could employ to benefit from such a scenario? Lightening up the large caps and switching to small caps for a year or two , is this a good strategy going forward?
I have included some of the ETFs that you are fond of from your Q&A. However feel free to add or delete!

Q: I have two questions. Gold value is now above $2000 US and AEM does not seem to correlate the price of gold, is there a reason for that? I have heard about Cohere (https://cohere.com/), a language AI company based in Toronto, their list of investors is quite impressive (NVDA, SalesForce, Oracle, etc,). Do you think this company could be listed on the TSX in the near future? Thank you
