Q: There has been lately a significant advertising pressure regarding alternative investments . What is your opinion on these? Which Canadian companies could be considered as being sort of companies with an alternative investments focus which would fulfill such type of investment for a small independent retail Canadian investors? Would you also recommend some US names with a similar focus. Thank you.

Q: Dear Peter and team,

Thank you for answering my question earlier about non-correlated assets. Very clear and helpful. For Private equity you had chosen BX as an option (also VXX) and every subscriber knows how much you like BN/BAM :) (I must say that I am tickled by the number of folks in both print and TV media, not just you, are enamored with Mr. Bruce Flatt. A true Bromance!!)

My question is how come not many mention anything about similar European Private equities firms which are publicly traded. Google search yielded CVC capital, EQT, Ardian, Apax...

Which PE firm from the EU would you consider as a reasonable complement for BX/BLK/BAM . Feel free to add any other PE firm that you think has potential.
Many thanks in advance.

Mano

Q: We have BN (full position) and BAM in Canadian $ accounts. 5i appears to consider these very good choices for part of a portfolio foundation. Do you have similar choices to recommend that we could put in our US$ accounts (TFSA, RRIF) ?
Thank you, as always.

Q: Greetings 5i,

I own both of these and have done well. I consider them long term holds. Bruce Flat has stated last quarter he sees 20% growth per year over several years. Apollo has merged with Athene (insurance /annuities etc). My question is, in an inflationary and subsequent rising interest rate environment, will these two companies face significant headwinds? Have we seen the “top” in the asset management class short to medium term? Please explain why or why not. Deduct as needed.

Cheers!

Q: Private Equity is an area of investment that has been getting a lot more attention recently. Which listed asset managers specializing in Private Equity are worth looking at? Would the multiple-recent-name-change firm SuRo Cap Corp. be worth inclusion in this group?

Q: Hi - I've had about 4-5% in each of the above going into the recent crash. Do you have any thoughts on hanging on to AD vs moving money to the banks (for example). AD has been hit much harder, but the dividend is larger. I would hold on if it's clear they will come out the other side ok. Similarly with APO, if you can comment on the US side.

Thank you!

Q: Greetings 5i,

There seems to be much interest in asset management and infrastructure firms these days, BAM.A, BEP, Apollo Global Management, Blackrock... etc. Do you see the business model becoming saturated? Is there competion between these companies for the better assets? Has risk increased due to lower margin aquisitions and competition? Or is there plenty of opportunities for these companies and a clear runway for growth? What are your thoughts.

Cheers!

Q: Hi,
I've owned ONEX in the past but currently don't have any exposure to private equity and I'm looking to get back into this space. Should an average long term growth investor have some exposure to this asset class? Looking to make PE 3-5% of my total portfolio. Can you rank the mentioned stocks from best to worst and which ones are best for long term growth and capital appreciation. Any other suggestions or advice would be welcome. Thanks!

Q: On the US side of my portfolio I am going to be cautious about what I add. I will get an opinion from you before making a purchase. My last recent purchase which I watched for quite some time (Netflix), made the purchase, and 2 days later it was down $75.00 per share and it does not seem to be making a recovery. I am thinking of selling Netflix and along with some US cash I have, and I will list some US stocks that look good to me. APO, NOW, ISRG, OKTA, BIIB and SFTBY. Out of these, which ones would you purchase? Thanks again, Dennis
