Q: I am into your Balanced Equity portfolio for my CDN equity exposure. Thinking of switching out of PBH and replace with QSR with the idea that PBH has had a good run but admittedly I missed most of it. Does this seem reasonable to you?

Q: Recently, CP Rail went down by about 5%. This seems to have been related to a Biden administration announcement about regulating prices and profits for the rail (and for shipping). The only other rail I see the share price for is CN; CN seems to have been hit less severely by the announcement and seems to have recovered a bit better. Can you identify any reason(s) why CP was a bit more badly off? And how does CP compare to other US rails in this recent event. On a completely unrelated issue, BC (and other places of course) has experienced another season of terrible forest fires, Sparks from railroads are mentioned as a possible cause of these fires, and there have been some Orders made for the rail companies to take steps to mitigate the hazard. Are the fires a risk to CP, either for potential liability for causing the fires, or for extra operating costs with lower profitability? Thank you for your excellent service.

Q: My question is in regards to your information about US$ Dividends. I contacted Questrade where I have an account and they were pretty clear that if I have these stocks with the TSX, then they get paid in CA$. Here is what they said:
"I will like to let you know that we are not exchanging your dividend. We are only depositing the currency we received into your account. And I have double checked with our team and they confirm we can't change the currency of the dividend or choose them.
I am sorry you will need to contact investor relation of the company to help you with this. Please note we only deposit as what we receive from the company."
This is quite different from what the article on your home page says. Am I misunderstanding? Could you please explain. Thanks so much!

Q: Good evening,
I’m looking to increase my stock holdings in the industrial sector. I currently own HON at 3% and have a small position in XBC (due to recent declines). I’d like to add 3 long-term stocks and have identified the following as options: CNR, WSP or J, TFII, XYL, ATA, ROP. I can accept higher risk and would like companies that are leaders or doing something new/innovative in their area. I was also thinking of diversifying within the industrial sector. I’m wondering what 3 additions you’d pick at this time, either from my list above or others that I may have missed? I’m also wondering whether I should add to XBC at this point?
Thank you for great this service!
Lisa

Q: May I have your latest thoughts on UFS? In 2020 you were fairly negative on their debt...is that still your position? Over the past month I have seen the stock hit new 52 week highs...do you have any idea what is driving the stock higher?
Is UFS simply a material stock which is now bouncing hard now or is there something more to it? According to my broker UFS earnings per share is negative $3.52. Are the earnings projected to go positive this year?
Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.
Jim

Q: What is your take on the share buyback? Good or bad for shareholders?
Q: Where are we with IPL and GC takeovers now? I thought these deals or takeovers were closing out or going through by the end of June 2021.
Q: It looks like 2 deals in 1 week. Is this unusual? Comments please on the deals in particular and Mullen in general.

Q: hello 5i:
Considering an investment in NTR, BUT........when I look at a long term chart (20 years), I see a company that has, over the years, had a declining share price. Or, as you like to term it, not created shareholder value in the long term. Can you address this problem and why you think "things are different now". Can you add what you see as the "best of breed" in either the agriculture or materials space?
thanks

Q: Good Morning,
I am considering buying ARE and am wondering if the company will be able to participate in the US infrastructure spending. If not what are their growth prospects. Also I am wondering what their debt level is.
Thanks for your input.

Q: How do you go about calculating annualized returns on a stock that you've purchase across multiple dates? For example, in my portfolio I purchase PLTR 3 times, at 3 different prices. Questrade calculates a weighted total return using a weighted cost per share. However, the % just represents the absolute return to date. If I try to annualize this, can I do it without having to use each individual transaction date? Similar to the weighted cost per share, could I do the same calculation for the hold period? Any guidance or resources you could provide would be helpful here, as I've found online resources lacking in this general area.
Thanks!
Marc
Thanks!

Q: Hello Peter,
I have GDI in my TFSA account and have done well so far.
Thank you.
However, I feel there is not much growth in the future and am considering replacing it with either EGLX or AT. The hesitancy stems due to the old adage - don't fix if it ain't broken. From a reward perspective, is the increase in risk justified ? I would appreciate your selection amongst the three for the TFSA. Subsequently , a preference amongst the remaining two for a margin account.
Do you consider GDI a growthy stock with a dividend yield?
Regards
Rajiv
