Q: I have CCP corporation and would appreciate your recommendations for buy and forget stocks (moderate risk; 10-year hold). With such high dividend taxes in the CCPC, I would prefer stocks that pay a lower dividend or no dividend. Could you please recommend the 10 CAN and 5 US stock you would buy today, if you were starting this account?

Q: Hello Peter,
It appears that Knight Therapeuctics is testing ones patience for long term investing. Do you think it is worth a hold given the lack of performance for a long time? I am bit puzzled as sometimes when there is no attention paid to a stock, it is a good time to buy if the leadership and fundamentals appear to be intact. Please advise. Also, Nuvei seems to be developing more partnerships. Is it worth adding to a full 5 percent position as it has settled into the 80s range.. Thank you for the service.

Q: Retired, dividend-income investor. I am 67 and receive CPP, OAS and a company pension.

Just checking in to see what your 2022 suggested asset allocation is for each of the 11 sectors within the equity portion of my portfolio. My current targets for each sector are as follows:
Finance = 17.5%
Real Estate = 7.5%
Telecome = 7.5%
Utilities = 15.0%
Consumer Staples = 12.5%
Consumer Disc = 5.0%
Health = 7.5%
Industrials = 7.5%
Technology = 7.5%
Energy = 7.5%
Materials = 5.0%

What are your 2022 suggestions?

I am a new member, joined last May 2020. Since joining, I have been learning quite a lot on this site. We purchased about 70k (my TFSA) based almost exclusively based on your Balance Portfolio with some minor additions of other stocks. Despite the recent market looses, my portfolio is stable, luckily I don't check on it daily.

This week, we moved some funds around, we are looking to invest another 100k in the stock market, we have an investment horizon of 5-10 years for this fund. I have been told repeated that it's not about the timing, but the time in. Yet with a retirement horizon of 10 years, should we be concerned with entering the market this week?

If you were to buy 3 stocks today, what would they be?

Q: Morning 5i,
I'm light on transportation, and recently read an optimistic appraisal of MTL that considered its substantial dividend to be safe, highlighted its aggressive share buyback program (approximately $100M worth of shares last year and this) good price/cash flow and forward PE metrics and evaluated both it's business and business model as solid for the foreseeable future.
I wonder if you agree and how you would compare it to TFII which I know you like? Specifically, I'd be interested in your comparison of the two in terms of total return over three or so years.

Q: Which one (GFL or EFN) would be better for a long term hold with capital preservation and of course some growth in a TFSA account. The funds are coming from ECN special dividend, which I still have a full position in.

Q: I have noticed that DOLLARTREE , a US, discount store where every item was sold for a dollar each, has increased their prices by 25% to 1.25. Assuming 7% inflation that leaves an 18 % increase in gross margin; not bad. I expect consumers would not avoid purchases on a 25 cent increase so unit sales should not affected.
Does this sound reasonable?
Would the same dynamic be in play with Dollarama ( although they have an increasingly number of items above a dollar ) ?

Q: Hi,
I am thinking about "Norberting" to get a position in ATVI. There seems to be 15% left on the table. I am guessing currency risk is negligible. Seems like an okay plan?
On an unrelated note, isn't it uncanny that I had that vibe about gold (see my previous question)! I am guessing there is still a lot of upside for gold.

Q: I read recently that Apollo Global Management acquired a significant ownership in Martinrea. Although, now I can’t seem to confirm the source after a google search. Anyways, do you see a scenario where MRE is acquired by Apollo or another Asset Manager like Brookfield? Can you rate the probability on a scale of 1-10 whereby 1 is least likely and 10 most likely. Q: Looking to the future and the EV space. I know GM and F are making big inroad’s and have the scale. However, what about TM as an alternative play. It has a decent divd and has had a long lead time in EV’S relative to NA players…and arguably a more reliable product.
