Q: Hello, in a non-registered account, how is capital gain on US stocks taxed? Is it taxed the same way as capital gain on a Canadian stock (50% of the gain)? Thanks, Gervais

Q: I have 5 grandchildren between the ages of 0 and 11. I'd like to buy 5 stocks in my TFSA to leave alone until they are adults. Of course, I will monitor the stocks the same as I do for my other stocks, but the idea is that I would not sell unless there is a big fundamental change, and consider them a small independent portfolio. As the children come of age, the idea would be to sell a little of each I'm thinking SHOP might be an option for one holding. Can you suggest 5 stocks that would be suitable?

Q: Most Canadian dividend stocks seem to be floundering, of late, particularly REITS, Utilities, and Telcos (though pipelines aren't doing much either). Is there a particular reason given rates are low and unlikely to rise any time soon?
