Q: Peter; Just a note re Andrea’s question on in kind transfers. I just requested a in kind transfer from my RRIF to my TFSA. My broker, BMO Investor Line told me it’s not allowed- yet when I did some research it clearly is. I realize you’re not tax experts but I would appreciate your take- plus maybe ask others if they have been refused also? Thanks

Q: Cannabis stocks have been decimated. Does this seem overdone ? Are there any that look attractive at these prices? How do you like mid/long term potential of this space?

Q: I am looking at buying some preferred shares as part of my Income Portfolio. As interest rates rise the share prices fall. When would be the opportune time to buy them, when intrest rates peak? Since markets are forward looking, when would you start buying? What would be the signal(s) to start buying? I know this is a timing question and timing is seldom perfect. Any quidance/suggestions you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Q: I hold FNV, KRR and AEM for gold exposure. I am thinking of selling FNV after the news related to their royalty stream in Panama. How material is this for FNV? Do you feel this will be an overhang on the stock in the next few months? I am hopeful for a little run in gold in the next few months and i am concerned FNV will not participate due to this news. If selling FNV, what do you recommend to compliment my other 2 holdings?

Q: Referring to my earlier question today, would using some the tax loss sale proceeds from selling BBU to buy some more BAM violate CRA similarity rules on repurchasing?

Q: On the reorganization of BAMa I believe Brookfield indicated that the preliminary estimate of the cost base for taxes of BAMa would be split 88% to BN and 12% to BAM. They were to update this calculation when the transaction was completed. Do you know if there has been any update on this calculation? Thanks A Merry Christmas to All.

Q: I note that you just added TCS to your growth portfolio and it dropped like a stone today about 8%. Any comment on what might have caused the drop. Fortunately, I bought my shares just off the bottom today and it has recovered somewhat.

Q: Why do you think Brookfield feels the need to do spinoffs from the parent company year after year? Who profits the most from these spinoffs- Management? Why not build a powerhouse under the parent company? Doesn’t make sense to me.

Q: Hi 5i. Merry Christmas to all !

I need some help with the mechanics of an 'in-kind transfer'. Particularly with one from a RRSP to a TFSA.

If I use the 2023 TFSA contribution limit of $6500 and want to move that amount of Stock 'A' from a RRSP to a TFSA, then I understand that withholding tax would apply to that amount.

Where does the withholding tax get paid from? I am assuming a number of Stock 'A' shares would be sold to cover the amount of tax owed. Is that correct?

Furthermore, is it possible to have the withholding tax paid from cash within the RRSP or would the tax owed be added to the transfer of $6500 0f Stock 'A' to the TFSA?

Essentially, can I move $6500 of Stock 'A' to the TFSA and pay the withholding tax from cash in the RRSP, as if they were two separate transactions.

Q: In 5iresearch data info the BAM has no info about its dividend and dividend frequency payments . Do you have this information on these and it payout ratio? I understand that this stock has been relatively recently created from the reorganization of the Brookfield Asset Management but is the data I am asking available for investors? I have looked on line for such data and appears to be available. Thank you . Miroslaw
