Q: Hi 5i,

If one was predisposed to achieve a higher yield for an income portfolio, what would you replace WSP, PRMW and PLC with? Or does this defeat the purpose of balance and keeping some growth?

Q: New to the site here. Why are there companies in the model portfolios that are not rated? If you are recommending them why wouldn't you rate them? Thanks!

Q: Some help for Paul asking for ideas to invest in his TFSA. In February (13)?, 2017, 5i answered a request for the top 10 picks harvested from the 5i portfolios. They were as follows: GSY, SHOP, SLF, WSP, GUD, OTEX, SIS, KXS, PBH, and one other I lost track of. Over the 4 years the return, if still held, would be +280%, but even without SHOP or GUD, the return is a respectable +96%. So for Paul and me would you do it again from current portfolio holdings. My New Years resolution is to pay more attention to your picks...........thx. Lionel

Q: Greetings,

I would like to transition an account that was being handled by an investment firm to one that would be income based, and self administered. I will start with approx 100K and add to it as funds come available. I am considering the income portfolio as a guideline. If I were to start with 12 names from the portfolio, which would you be most comfortable purchasing today? Or would you recommend all 22 names and adding to each as funds come available? I have a minimum 10 year timeline, if not longer. I currently follow the balanced portfolio and could not be happier. This account is for my bride and she prefers less risk. Thanks in advance, as a PSA, I have been a member since 2017 and haven't slept better since joining. Thanks!

Q: Hi,

If you were to look at your Income Portfolio with a critical eye, are there any companies or ETFs there that you would consider at high risk of reducing their dividend/distribution? If so, why?

Thanks,

Gord

Q: You currently have > 9% cash in the Income portfolio. In the past you have indicated you prefer to be mostly invested. If my memory is correct, your responses to past questions have referenced the Income portfolio being up x% so far this year (now 13%) vs the targeted 6-8%/year, so you are taking your time to find appropriate investments. Respectfully, I would counter with the multiyear performance #s of 2-5%/year (quite a bit below the 6-8% target), so wouldn't you want the cash to be put to work? I know you just added a new 3% position on Oct 8.

So, I am trying to understand...is the 9% cash level is more of a "strategic" allocation (waiting for a pullback...market timing, which I know you don't believe in), are you still undergoing research for the right investment or is there some other reason?

Please note I am not criticizing. I have loads of respect for the 5iR team and have way more confidence managing my own portfolio knowing 5iR is there to provide guidance. I am just trying to understand the purpose for the cash in the Income portfolio. I too have roughly 7% cash and am struggling to find the "right" investment and put it to work.

Thanks...Steve
