Q: UPST has been a disappointing stock. In my TFSA, there is no opportunity for tax loss harvesting here. What US alternates would you suggest, not necessarily in the same category, that may give excellent growth potential in a market turnaround?

Q: For a long term hold would you prefer DOL or ATD or is there another Consumer Defensive company you would recommend?
Also with growth as the objective and for a long term hold please rank SHOP, CSU, MSFT and NVDA.
Thank you.

Q: In your reply to Shane you said "we think an investor who chooses the right stocks, and can do nothing for three years, is going to see some very hefty returns when this thing turns"; please elaborate and give me a few names. Thanks.

Q: Hello , following is my list of losers .. and I am assessing which ones to sell this month for YE capital loss. I appreciate your comments.

As an aside; in watching the huge drop in some of these stocks, one certainly wonders about the wisdom of their CEO's ... as an example META, they are spending billions on Metaverse so that people can work and play and interact in virtual reality .. maybe in the year 2050 !!. and many others that just didn't adopt their businesses to people post Covid returning to work and shop at malls... truly incompetent .. For me, this crash has convinced me to buy shares in companies that are making money and have a strong management team.

Thank you
Carlo R.

Q: I have sat on my hands, during the past year and stayed the course, not selling anything, waiting for the turn to see what recovers. But, after your answer to Marty today, I wonder if I should be selling Lightspeed and adding the funds to Shopify. Thoughts?

Q: Hi Everyone at 5i!!!
First, I would like to thank everyone for your support and hand holding in these trying market times!! You have helped me keep panic and the temptation of emotional selling at bay. My question: I am building TFSA’s for my kids . Could you please give me 5 long term holds either US or Canadian which you think hold decent growth prospects for the future for them . I understand that you do not have a manic crystal ball . Cheers, Tamara

Q: In your response to Guy R. (Oct 22) about Tax Selling, you indicated the likelihood of a considerable sell-off still to come for this year's 'worst performing' stocks. Yikes !! Taxable account or not, wouldn't it be advantageous to sell the “worst” now, then repurchase in early December those stocks that you wish to own for the future? Otherwise, by holding, you are faced not only with recouping the loss already established, but on top of that, the additional loss anticipated in the coming 5 weeks.
My “worst performing” list includes: Canadian stocks: ANRG, AT, CAE, EGLX, LSPD, MG, PRN, SHOP, WELL. US stocks: APPS, U.
1) Are there any of these that you would suggest NOT selling ?
2) Of those to be sold, are there any that you would suggest NOT repurchasing in December ?
3) You mentioned some investors will want to buy “less worse” performing stocks so as not to miss out on a possible short term rally. Do you support this approach in the current situation, rather than just holding the cash proceeds temporarily ? If so, are there a handful of “less worse” performing stocks, that you would suggest and, would they be temporary or more long term replacements ?
Use whatever question credits appropriate. Thank you , as always.

Q: Bear markets are historically fantastic opportunities to build wealth for longer-term investors... what are your top 5 - 7 stocks that in retrospect we will be happy to have bought when we go back to a bull market ? Thanks !

Q: I am planning to sell these names for tax-loss. Should I buy a replacement for each to protect against a turnaround in the next 30 days, or do you think I'm better off holding the cash for that period given the current outlook for equities. If you still recommend replacements can you offer a suggestion for each - or perhaps only for some? Thanks.

Q: Hi 5i Team,

With small and mid-cap stocks at very low valuations what would be your must owns for stocks in the US and Canada for solid growth over the next 1-5 years with the core characteristics that you look for including solid growth in revenues, strong balance sheet and etc.?

Over the course of the next 6 months would you be a buyer of small to mid cap stocks or large cap stocks? I'm a long-term investor with a medium to high growth risk tolerance.

Thanks as always,
Jon
