Q: Hello, Can you explain how PPL can continue to pay a dividend that is, in most years, greater than their earnings? How long can they do this for and what is the probability of them dropping their dividend? Thanks

Q: Renewable energy has been beaten up over the last year and seems to be fairly cheap at the moment. With quantitative tightening and raising interest rates on the horizon, would it be prudent to wait to see what happens with inflation before moving into this sector? Which of these names do you prefer? Thanks.
Q: I am looking to add a position to AQN to increase utility exposure in my portfolio. I had bought AQN in December at 17.50, I see the price still hovering at that level, Is it good to increase the exposure in AQN at this level or would you recommend alternative stock?

Q: I am looking to add to the utilities sector. I currently have FTS BIP.UN and AQN. Not really excited about AQN for the last year. I would like to add to my utility stock basket and looking for recs. Also might drop AQN. My horizon is 7-10 yrs.

Q: Why renewables have been down so much and for so long even though their fundamentals are strong ? They were down before interest rates started creeping up. Pipelines, which are also interest rate sensitive, are doing OK.
Q: I see INE has dropped nearly 50% in last year. It offers a dividend over 4% now.
I like the sector, and the giant investment to be announced this week for offshore windmills on the U.S. East coast might help sentiment of the depressed sector and tenders should follow suit to support ongoing growth.
How would you assess this security in light of an income account at this point?

Q: Can you explain why the capital shares are paying a dividend and why it is so high. Also is it likely to be maintained? Thanks

Q: Hi Everyone,
Lately PKI seems to be on a downward trajectory. I am wondering if it's time to sell the stock, or do you see it rebounding this year.?
Also, I would like your opinion on DHT.UN. I know nothing about this stock, but it has a very attractive dividend. Does it have a lot of debt? How safe is its dividend and does it have any growth potential?
I appreciation your opinion.
Thanks,
Jane

Q: Hi Peter and 5i Team
I have held QSR in a RIF and am considering replacing it with KEG or AW. Both have more attractive dividends and seem to be performing better in the present environment. Could you rank in order of preference based on present valuation and future returns. Thanks for all you do.

Q: Would you prefer United Parcel Services or Stanley Black and Decker as a US industrial holding in a dividend portfolio? What about MMM? Can you rank these three via your preference?
Q: 5i: Just realised the yield of over 5%. Wow! What is your take? Sustainable? Considering swapping to Su from Vet which I am still down today at about 22%. Make any sense? Tks. Larry
Q: What do you think of buying some of this in a non registered account for the tax benefits you could receive.
If I buy at the current price ~ $24. before ex-dividend on Jan 18th I get a U$12.00 dividend (about C$15.57). Assume the stock drops down to $10. and I sell the stock I break even on cost, but I get a dividend tax credit and a capital loss on the sale of the stock. Both are a tax advantage.
If I buy in a registered account, it is more of a gamble with no tax benefits. Looking at their other business lines I can't see anything that would make me interested in holding after the sale of the bike business.
Looks like 3 or more insiders hold about 6mm shares. Nice dividend for them.
I realize you can't be tax experts, but I thought it was an interesting option.
Would like to hear your comments.
Thanks

Q: Hello Peter and the 5i team;
Wish you the very best for the new year.
I have ENB and PPL as my energy holdings. I am looking to add another, this time in the RRSP a/c.
Could you give me one name on the tsx , with perhaps a higher correlation to crude prices?
Regards
Rajiv
