Q: Good morning Peter, Ryan, and Team,

In an answer to Ulrike on October 2nd, in which he asked: "Which one company would you buy today? Hydro One or Fortis? Or none? And why?", you answered "Fortis has raised its dividend every year for close to 50 years, and we would have more confidence in it. H is OK, but has a lot of political interference still, with a new board as well, and a large acquisition that has yet to close."

It's your last comment that I'm wondering about. Washington state regulators have blocked the sale of Avista to Hydro One, citing "political interference". Does this setback for Hydro One affect your opinion of H going forward?

Thanks for your insight.

Q: Can you provide me a list of several dividend stocks that are relatively recession-proof but still have decent yield and potential for long-term growth? I'd like to start investing a bit in dividend stocks a bit each month but am wary of the financial uncertainty that is hovering over us right now.

Q: I bought BCE two or three years ago and watched its value peak about 3 times before settling back down now to levels pretty much where I bought it. In the meantime, I've had the benefit of a good dividend.

When I look at the 3 year chart, it is beginning to look encouraging again. so I was thinking that maybe some folks are buying into the telecoms because they like the stability offered in an economic downturn. I was about ready to sell and look for something with a bit more growth. Maybe I should hang on?

Would you recommend anything else with a similar dividend and stability in this economic environment?

Q: Re my question on H-IR, the receipts are trading around $27 and H is trading around $19 - 20. If the deal goes through what do I get for one H-IR? The press release which I read, and which you quoted did not make this clear to me. I assume I would not be trading a $27 H-IR for a share of H worth $20. (or would I ?)
And, also, what specifically would I receive if the deal does not go through?
Thanks,

Q: I need a little more information about the Hydro One Installment Receipts. They represent debentures? How many IRs per $1000 debenture?

If the transaction goes through, how many H shares does a holder receive for each receipt? (Is it based on a fixed number of shares, or a fixed value?).

If the deal does not go through, what does the receipt receive (a fixed $ amount)?

Q: With the decision deferral for Avista by the regulator and no board of directors in place for this company what are the odds now this takeover will not proceed? If not doesn't this make the installment receipts a buy since holders will receive their money back? The market doesn't seem to price in this possibility or is there something I'm missing?

Q: What do you guys think about all the bond proxy stocks that have been beat up due to their high yields? Is it safe to pick away at a few, what are your favorites in the group for yield with growing dividend?

Q: I own the shares and the bond units. I do not subscribe to the theory to hold an equity even though its falling, because you 'get paid to wait'. In certain instances you can wait forever to get back the capital losses.

So with that parameter out of the way, what is your future investment outlook for H given what has occurred today and the meddling that will occur in the future (your guess is better than mine)?

There are many income stocks to chose from, look at it from the capital preservation/downside approach.

Thanks

Sheldon

Q: I would expect hydro one to sell off today. Do you think it is a buy at his time and how much of a discount from yesterday's close should one pay given the uncertainty that will exist in the short term? This would be held by a retired person in an income Rrsp account. Thank you.

Q: Company and dividend as of close
KWH.UN 11.3%, BCE 5.6%, ENB 6.3%, ALA 8.3%, EIF 6.8%, HR.UN 6.8%, RUS 5.5%, BEP.UN 6.2%, GS 6.1%, AQN 5.1%, EMA 5.2%, FTS 4%, H 4.59%
Hi
Could you please choose from the above list (or any additions of your choice) the stocks that you feel would be best suited to be held in an income/dividend non registered account for a long period of time. It would be great if you could also guide me as to whether I should do equal weight or if it is better to invest by a percentage of one company over another. I am interested in trying to have the highest return of dividends but I do not want to reach too far for it (ie 50% KWH.UN). If I could get a blended 6% annually over 10+ years that would be super. Not all the companies need to be included. I know there are some that overlap sectors.
Thank you for all that you do. You are great guides.

Q: I believe in the inevitability of alternative energy, although not imminent, I think fossil fuels are a dying industry. Energy transmission will be needed regardless of the generating source so I am looking for companies that operate in this space. ie build/maintain transmission infrastructure or develop smart grid technologies. The big utilities have some exposure but I was looking for more of a pure play. Do you have any suggestions on specific companies. Thanks
