Q: Although I prefer investing directly in stocks, our company is considering switching to Nest Wealth at Work for it's RRSP plan and it makes sense to participate.
It appears to be all Vanguard EFT's. Would 5i or possibly other members with experience, share feedback?
Thanks in advance!
Q: I remember looking at a blog post you guys did a while back on tsx listed companies with large % of revenue from the US. Can you paste the link? Please and thank you
Q: Would you buy OSB ($36.42) at this price and wait for a turn around while collecting its' dividend?
Dividend is $6.30/17.3% - is it safe or will it be cut?
Tks.
Q: I am comfortable having about 10% of my non-registered account in the forest products sector. About 55% of this amount is Norbord and the other 45% is split about evenly among Canfor, Interfor and West Fraser. Norbord pays a good dividend; the others don't. Would you suggest any consolidation or rebalancing here or changes that might improve upside potential? All four are down relative to original purchase so any adjustments here would only trigger tax losses.
It has clearly been a major disappointment, but surely, the business still has some value. My understanding was the business they do has a significant moat, which, to my way of thinking, should make it appealing to someone doing M&A but not at the prices I paid for it!
My question is, would it be a reasonable bet to dollar cost average down in the hopes of putting my shares in play for a potential take over, or do I just walk away.
If I continue to hold for the dividend, is there a reasonable chance of an eventual recovery?
Q: Interesting article in todays Globe about the difficulties people had in selling their shares on January 7th and 8th while the stock was tanking. I'm glad that with your help in analyzing my intentions for owning the stock, I had already sold out my position in the autumn. So....
Thanks,
Jim
Q: Hello, Which of these consumer staple names would you consider. I was leaning towards MRU as it seems cheaper that than the other two and the Jean Coutou acquisition sets it up for further growth. I already own PBH but thanks to last year my position is much smaller. Thank you. Shyam
Q: TCL.A has had insider buying and fundamentals (to my eye) look good although earning predictions are flatish. My daughter is down about 30% and I’m temped to add to her position. Does that sound reasonable or would you recommend waiting for 1 or 2 quarters.
Q: My materials sector(RRSP,TFSA) has CCL.B at 5% and MX at 2%. I am considering taking profit from CCL.B(approx. 1.5%) at this time and moving it to MX but acknowledge that I would not be trimming sector allocation to 5%. What would your recommendations be for both the short term and long term?
Q: I just noticed from reading the question of a subscriber that you have sold SPB in your portfolio. I have not received any notification with respect to this although in the past I was receiving regularly updates with respect to your portfolio adjustments.
Can you please add me to your list so that I can receive regular updates?
Can you also provide some rationale as to why you sold SPB?
Thanks
Q: Good morning. I am looking to add to my technology and health care weightings. I’m looking more for dividend income security than growth although growth is always nice. Thanks.
Q: I have a question. I hold AGT in my TSFA at a price of $31.50/share. My question is how is it legal for the management to be involved in buying out the shares of the company at $18.00 [much lower than when most of us bought in] when they are the ones who were in charge?
I could see a takeover by a group who thinks the shares are undervalued, but how can management be involved? They could have drove down the price through management decisions so they could buy it at a ‘sale’ price and take it private. That’s what it looks like to me.
I am surprised I haven’t heard of a class action lawsuit about this.
Q: Given your recommendationed percentages for sector allocation could you tell me which stocks in your balanced portfolio are utility stocks and telecom stocks and if there are none in your balanced portfolio which would be a buy at this time?
Q: Given the uncertainties of the USA policies affecting China, North American tariffs, the shut down, etc., I am looking ahead as to how the Dem Congress, the GOP Senate and White House will be able to ratify the USCMA trade accord in 2019. Then too, Canada and the new Mexican government must ratify the trade terms. Would you share your thoughts on defensive sectors? I am a prudent investor. Thank you …. Martin
Q: Do you know what the reasons would be that some of the companies that have had DRIP”s are starting to get rid of them? A couple that come to mind recently are Enbridge and Canadian Utilities. Thanks
Q: Hello 5I,
Last summer Peter wrote an article about 5 possible takeover candidates in the Financial Post. Wouls you still consider them potential takeover candidates today and have the rational / $ matrix changed for each of them?
Thank you very much!
