Q: I am not concerned about the pullback in share prices today as I purchased this one just after the start of the pandemic. But........I invested in Shawcor with the thought that they did pipeline coatings and would be a valuable part of the continuing use of pipelines to transport oil and gas. They have decided to divest themselves of this volatile 25% of their business. Is their remaining 75% positioned to prosper into the future? Thank you Gordo

Please give your opinion on this quarterly report. It looks great to me...but am I missing something. I own the stock and am up. Not sure if this is a time to buy on strength...be happy and cash in...or just be cautious and hold. Your opinion is always respected before I take full responsibility for my decisions. Thanks as always!

Q: Peter and His Wonder Team
This stock has been like winning the lottery...it has risen about 50% since May. Needless to say it makes my day. So what do you think? Do you think that it has more room to run or should I cash in my winning ticket? Ha!Ha! Also if there is some kind of so called recession would it be seriously devalued.
Thank you for your opinion and insight...it is always a voice of reason! With respect...thanks again!

Q: is there any news on matr/shawcor, cannot find a thing, big volume, 52 week high. dave
Q: I have done very well with this Company and continue to hold their shares. Following your guidance of letting your winners run!
A recent announcement is that "Shawcor sells its Shaw Pipeline Services Business to a material services company". Is there anything that is concerning about this transaction? Is this a Company you would continue to hold?
Thank you Gordo.

Q: I have been letting my shares in Shawcor "run" up. Today there is quite a drastic drop in the shares. What are your thoughts on the recent results. Hold or sell.
Thank you Gordo

Q: Several of the oilfield service providers were financially crushed or bankrupt when the price of oil dropped to below zero. Those that survived are probably in a fairly good position. Although government policies are doing everything possible to discourage investment in the energy sector, there will be a time when reality sets in and investment in the sector will be supported. Can you recommend some financially strong companies in the oilfield service sector. Thank you

Q: I have a question for 5i with respect to the “oil service subsector” of the energy sector. I currently own some pipeline stocks (large cap) and some E&P stocks (one small cap and one mid cap), however, I do not own an oil service stock at the present time. So…. I have some questions and would appreciate your views on the subsector.
With E&P companies focused on balance sheets, and returning capital to shareholders, are those management actions having any impact on the oil services sector?? Your views please.
If you think the oil services sector is not unduly impacted by the E&P focus outlined, how do you view the services sector – is it a favourable view??
How might one invest in the sector, would I be better off with a large cap like Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, or Haliburton and if so which one (s) would you favour? If not, are there smaller cap companies that warrant some investor attention and what names come to mind, would your focus be US based or Canadian based – thanks in advance.

Q: I just reviewed the FP Investor I received in my email this past week.
In their review they reviewed the 5 worst performing stocks on the TSX during 2022
4 of the 5 were as follows:
SHOP Down 72%
LSPD Down 65%
DND Down 55%
NVEI Down 62%
You guys are running the 3 5i portfolios and are recommending buys and sells.
William O'Neill whom I'm sure Peter has read has one of the prime principles of his CANSLIM model is LIMIT YOUR LOSSES. He recommends as soon as a stock falls 7% it should be sold. To limit your loss. This will prevent catastrophic losses from affecting the portfolio in a major way.
Now I'm not saying that 5i should have this principle exactly but as responsible portfolio managers I do feel that 5i should have a loss containment strategy for those who follow the portfolio and might not be that experienced.
I know in past posts you suggest readers utilize mental stop losses rather than real time stop losses. I feel that 5i as portfolio managers should do the same. Going forward there should be no holding in the portfolios that are down as dramatically as those listed above.
Hope you adopt this as a New Years Resolution Investing Principle to add to your Investment Strategy Guidelines
All the best

Q: A perplexing, but good, question. I bought Shawcor back in 2020 at a very low cost ($3.23). Should I "let it run" or sell some. It has become 25% of my TFSA.

Q: Shawcor is changing it's name and initiating a strategic review of it's oilfield services.
What is the new company going to focus on and assuming the sale process is positive what is the future outlook for the company?
Thanks

Q: I have held SCL.CA for some time and it has lost much of its value.
Is there any point on keeping it or is it time to move on?

Q: Hello, I am up 50% on this stock. Is there good mid to long term potential with this stock at this current price? I am also trying to reduce my portfolio volatility. For example, AW.UN is low volatility to me, whereas EGLX is high volatility. I would be happy to hold SCL if you think this stock has mid to long term potential and with volatility that leans towards AW.UN than EGLX. Thank you.
Q: Peter and His Wonder Team
SCL just reported 3Q results and are down 16%...were they that bad? Also I realize they are making structural chances. So what do you think about there future in the next couple of years? Are they in big trouble because they service fossil fuel? Thanks!

Q: Greetings 5i team.
In looking at Q's archives, I do not see a question that required a review of current state of affairs.
May I please have your retroactive views on SCL's Aug/21 results and outlook? Please also include the earnings estimates coming up in Nov/21 and advise if you see value in the equity of SCL.
Many thanks for your assessment.

Q: I need to sell 2 of the above companies tied to the energy sector as a tax loss for 2021.
I am assuming WTI will rise to $85.00. Which 2 would be your choice. Would you endorse Tax loss/Rebuy strategy after 30 days for any of these securities.
Best Regards,
Harold
