I hold about 5% in each of these companies, with the rest in indices (XAW, VCN) and cash. Do you have any recommendations for other companies I should be looking at to diversify? Thanks for the help!
Q: With the possible exception of BMO, the Big Five banks seem to be hitting a plateau. At the same time, there's talk of moderating interest rates. But shouldn't lower rates be a stimulus for banks' business - mortages, etc.? I thought it was the insurance companies that benefited from higher rates. Or is the apparent tapering-off of banks' growth just a reversion-to-the-mean phenomenon?
Q: I have owned JPM, TD and BNS for a few years. The thinking was it would enable me to spread my investments outside of Canada. Given the lacklustre performance of JPM and the fact that TD has significant US assets and BNS is international, I am thinking of swapping JPM for VISA (or MC if you think that is better) to get financial assets that may act just a bit differently than the banks. Does this thesis make sense?
Q: The results in TD's capital markets segment in Canada mirror other banks and makes me think we have a canary in the coal mine scenario. That being, Canada's business community is not active in raising capital through both debt and equity issues and, in turn, not spending money on capital projects. This would be partially from the collapse of our oil and gas industry but I am thinking it is wider spread than that. Comment?
Q: Hello, I am looking at making some adjustments to my portfolio over the next few months as I am concerned about the possibility of the next recession perhaps coming by the end of 2019 or early 2020. I would appreciate your recommendations for some defensive stocks which would weather a recession without too big of a drop. I already hold ENB, FTS, BNS and TD which I intend to keep but am looking to replace some of my other stocks with more defensive names.
thanks for your advice.

Q: Does the following make sense, or is there a flaw I'm missing? For a beginning RRSP with 35 yrs to retirement: 50% VGRO and 50% equal amts TD, EMA, PBH, BEP.UN? ( to increase Cdn exposure and to make a little more conservative)
Thank you.
I'm looking for two good dividend payers, with some growth, and minimal volatility over the next 2 years. If they perform, I'd prefer to hold them long term. What to do you recommend and why? I already own AQN. If theres a better choice I haven't mentioned, pease do.
