Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I heard an interview with Marin Katusa author of The Rise of America in which he stated companies such as Exxon, Shell, Ford etc. will be forced to buy carbon credits and this presents a huge investment opportunity. I would appreciate your analysis and if you agree how would you take advantage of this opportunity. Thank you for your help.

Q: I have received voting materials from XOM and there is a lot of discussion about a hedge fund called "Engine No. 1" that is trying to insert some directors on the board of XOM. This is interesting to me. Are you familiar with this effort? Can that even happen? And should I follow XOM's advice and vote along party lines?

Thanks.

What do you think of US energy stocks for the next two years? Is it too late to get in?

If not, which would you recommend?

Q: It seems the market always looks forward and as such there must be companies that are moving to the upside now based on what the economies of the world will look like six months from now. Please provide me with the names of 5 Canadian companies and 5 American companies that you believe should do well in this new world. (Hopefully, post Covid World). I realize I'm asking for an educated guess, but since you have far more experience than I do, I would appreciate your opinion.

Q: Wondering about getting returns from non-tech companies, since I have plenty of tech. The world largely still runs on oil. Of course Russia and Saudi Arabia can swing the market, as we have seen. I have some Suncor (SU) and Exxon (XOM). Is Exxon's (XOM) dividend safe? Any wild guesses as for how many quarters out an upswing for energy might be? Thoughts on adding to XOM or SU? I feel like there is potential there that might be better than say Loblaws or other basics.
I appreciate any insights.

Q: Hello 5i,

It is looking like things are firming up on the supply side for oil. What companies in Canada and the US will best participate in the limited recovery? I have a full (under water) position in SU btw.

Thanks for the service.
