Q: Looking to park some US cash and some Cdn cash with a reasonable assurance of safety (CDIC aside) while avoiding interest income in favour of capital appreciation via Horizons corporate class structure using these 2 ETFs. Do you see these as a reasonable means of achieving the goal? Both ETFs have substantial amounts invested and seem to use a similar approach to generating returns yet HSAV has more erratic up and down performance. Why? Any cautions or concerns? Whatcha think - does this plan make sense? Thanks as always for your generous thoughts.

Q: Is there an equivalent to XLG in Canadian dollars?

Q: I realize this stock has been beat up. looking to add a bank stock. Looking for a dividend stock for the long term. Should move on it now or wait until the dust settles. Or the other bank I'm considering is BNS. It's been the laggard for a while.

Q: Hi, further to your answer to Nick on Dec 2nd, it is best to hold BIP.PA in a registered account (TFSA, RRSP, RRIF) as,, it is an LP and pays distributions (not eligible dividends like most preferreds) which are subject to onerous tax reporting if held in a margin account.

Q: Below is an email from Interactive Brokers.
"As a result of recent US legislation under Internal Revenue Code Section 1446(f), gross proceeds from sales of and certain distributions from Publicly Traded Partnerships ("PTPs") held by non-US tax residents (both individuals and entities) will be subject to 10% withholding starting on January 1, 2023."

It is not clear to me that the 10% withholding tax is on the distributions only or 10 % tax will also be applicable to the total proceeds amount when I sell it ?
The company involved in my case is ET but can also be applicable to other publicly traded partnerships.

Q: Hi, How significant is Tourmaline's 15 years long term Export Marketing contract with Cheniere Energy, announced last year, to supply 140,000 mmBtu of natural gas, per day through TC Energy pipeline, commencing January, 2023. It appears that TOU will benefit from international pricing for this business. Does the company also indirectly benefit from the tight and lucrative LNG market, where Cheniere, perhaps has a dominant position ? Thank You

Q: Hi, BNN had a guest on Friday last week, Javed Mirza, who is the Chief Technical Strategist with Canaccord Genuity. He mentioned of a bull market cycle from 2018 to 2022, where Energy stocks enjoyed some of the best gains. As per his analysis, a new 4 years bull market cycle began this year (2022-26), where the best sectors to own will be Materials, Industrials and Financials. Interestingly, as per his view, Energy sector, which he strongly recommended in early 2020, has already run its course and these stocks are not likely to get further traction ( he expressed same views for Suncor ). Addressing a question on Shopify, he compared the chart with Bosch ( Ex Valeant Pharma ) and suggested that SHOP stock could languish for many years and should end up like Valeant. His advice was to stay away from Energy Sector and stocks like SHOP. 2-3 years ago, Mr Mirza, during an appearance on BNN, made a strong case to own Constellation Software, and he was spot on. I think, his view on the 3 favorite sectors, Materials/Gold, Industrials and Financials make some sense, but his comments on Energy Sector and SHOP left me confused. Would appreciate your thoughts !! I am up 84% in CELH in my TFSA. Considering selling 1/2 position and using the funds to purchase NVDA.
It will help me diversify because the only other US stock I have is GOOG.
Willing to wait 2 or 3 years to see NVDA return to it's former glory.
Sounds ok?
Or do you think CELH is just starting to really ramp-up and I should stay with it.
