Q: You have mentioned in past answers that you are not a fan of split corps.Why is that?

Also, what are your thoughts on these two funds.

Thank you for your excekkent service and advice.It appears that 5i does not have concerns about holding SDIV for revenue. As a 76 year value investor with emphasis on dividends, some growth (LSPD, LNF) for the next ten years are there any caveats to buying this at about $12.62? I realize that there is little growth with a history of returns much less than peers but with much higher dividends.

Q: Happy new year, 5i team,
I’ve read TOI Q&A back to around Sept ‘21. It seemed a sound strategy for me to buy them as my first tech stock, when priced at $140; just 40 shares. They’re non-registered so as to fit my goal of future tax advantages of capital gains if I ever needed to sell some. I was thinking that periodically I’d buy more to increase my tech weighting as well, overall in all accounts.
Reading your reply on price for ‘good, great and table pounding’, I am wondering if I totally misunderstood this stock. Did I overpay, or is the last 3-4 months drift down simply the manifestation of a higher risk stock. Your reply to a reader on your predictions on future P.E.s , TOI at 200x made me think that how this fairly new stock is doing is just what this kind does, and why a hold for 5+ yrs is best.
Do you have guidance if what I’ve written shows a big gap in my understanding please?
Would you buy more today?

Another note (please deduct credits)- when an investor is growing their portfolio and goes from say 5 stocks to 10 stocks, then to 20 stocks, the weights could be 20% each then drop to 10% each, then eventually get to the 5% max you advise, as more stocks are added. To me this seems logical and realistic, then I paused that maybe one must buy less of more stocks so one is closer to the 5% from the start of the journey rather than seeing that as the goal (say at the end of a 4-5yr period). Which strategy is better, does it not matter so long the investor eventually gets there, or, is this related to one’s risk profile?

Q: Telus, Maple, Well and others are Canadian stocks in the medical game in Canada and the USA. Are there other Canadian players in the same league? Can you please compare them from a financial performance, competitive and management perspective. Well has dropped by 50% since Sept/2021, very gradually. I'm wondering if there is a reason for the gradual decline. Is there a better stock in the same sector? Canadian or US. Also, is there still momentum pushing down WELL. Do you think it will be beaten by the competition in the next 2-3 years? Is it a sell from this perspective?

Q: I have BEP.UN in a non sheltered investment account and I am trying to figure out the tax difference between holding it and holding BEPC. I have capital gain on the BEP.UN and wondering if selling, taking the cap gain hit and buying BEPC for better tax treatment going forward is going to pay off in the long run.

Q: What is the difference between BEP and BIP? Aren't they both in utilities sector? Why does BAM feel the need to have 2 subsidiaries which focus on the same sector? Would one's portfolio need exposure to both?

If one is to hold only one infrastructure/utilities company in one's portfolio, which company would you recommend? BEP vs BIP vs any other suggestion that you think might be worthwhile? If it helps the answer, my risk tolerance is high and time line is 3-5 years.

Currently holding these three positions at a loss >50% each and they are less than 1% position now. What do I do with each? From reading previous comments, I think you still like EGLX and AT and would give them more time? Would you top up slightly to 1% or not average down on them now?

Q: Good day team. I own LSPD and follow KXS. As both are good companies I am thinking that one day I will either add to LSPD or open a position in KXS. The difficult part is comparing the value of these companies when they have negative earnings. Analysts often comment on the multiple of price to sales but this does not show up on a stock quotes. 1) is there an available source that provides this information, or 2) if I have to calculate it myself is the formula: stock price X shares outstanding divided by revenue?

Q: Hello, I hold JNJ in my RRSP. The announcement was made that JNJ will spin off its consumer arm to focus on medical division. Am I going to keep the exact same number of JNJ shares that I have right now and receive shares of the newly created consumer health company? Thank you

Q: First Service has pulled back significantly. I'm somewhat surprised at the extent of the pull back given the nature of its' business and history of stable growth and earnings. Please provide your comments and whether one would be well served to add to an existing position at these levels.
