Q: Hi 5i Team - The guest today on BNN Market call mentioned that Lumine specializes in carve-outs and that is to their advantage. Although he explained it, I'm not sure what carve-outs means and even if I have the correct term. Could you provide more information on this. In addition he felt that the evaluation is quite rich. Do you also feel this way. Also could you provide a summary of Lumine's fundamentals. and if you have any concerns with these fundamentals.

Q: I hold these small/mid cap stocks. Most have done well.

It looks like the interest rates vs inflation discussion isn’t going away soon and rates may be higher for longer. With this as the backdrop and current uncertainty around the markets is this a time to lighten up on Small/Mid cap stocks and take some profit? Or would you hold?

Q: Helping my young son with his TFSA; we bought CLS in late October based on your positive comments and recently sold enough shares near the high to get back his original investment. Now considering either TOI or LMN. Which stock would you choose and why? I'm favoring LMN but worried about the negative momentum at the moment. Thanks!

I currently hold fairly high positions of both LMN and TOI. I invested in these positions as opposed to CSU on the view that they would provide more growth over the long term as they are essentially smaller companies, under CSU guidance and play book. Would you agree with this strategy? Assuming I continue to hold both is there still a need to purchase CSU or would holding a mix of LMN and TOI be sufficient exposure for maximum growth within the family?

Q: Hi 5i Team - Constellation Software is a company that has never issued shares beyond their initial IPO. I'm pretty sure this applies to LMN and TOI as well but could you confirm. In all three, is there any possibility of them issuing more shares in the future.
Also could you name a few other companies that have never issued shares, Canadian, U.S., any size market cap, any sector.

Q: One of my children (early 20's) has funds in a TFSA they are looking to put in a high risk/high return stock. I'd asked them to do some homework on their own and they've (with some back and forth) come up with 3 names; 2 of which do not register when symbols entered.

Already owned are ASCU (1/2 position), Full positions of BN, LMN, RY, TCS, 1.5x positions of TVE, GOOG and 3x position of NVDA.

Biotech or tech seem to be the preferred themes but are not "must own" if there is something better,

The top 3 names so far are Coveo, Cardiol and Oncolytics Biotech. I would appreciate your thoughts on these 3 options, perhaps place them in order of preference and add 2 you would recommend as a high risk/high reward test.

Q: Hi Peter and Team,

Our Technology exposure across all accounts is 20.52%, which is concerning me. Without selling any CSU or LMN, which I plan to keep 'forever', could you please rank the following ETFs in order of which to sell outright, or reduce. Each ETF is followed by the percentage of Technology stocks that it holds:

QQC.F (62.51%)
VFV (39.6%)
XGRO (21.06%)

We have some other ETFs that we want to keep, and their Technology holdings are all less than 15%.

The proceeds from the sale/reduction in the three ETFs above will be used to increase holdings in under represented sectors.

The three ETFs noted all have good profits. No commissions will have to be paid with these transactions.

Q: I have the above tech stocks sitting at just over 30% weighting in portfolio. Could you please rank them as to which you might sell first. I sadly sold Crowdstrike last summer when they had their issues and I am thinking I need a cybersecurity stock. Would you buy Crowdstrike or Palo Alto or half of both. Also, What do you think about Saleforce? With the thought of cheaper AI, is that one that would possibly benefit and how where would it rank within my aboce tech stocks? Thanks for all your help. With all your advice, last year was awesome and still up this year following yesterday’s falloff.

Q: Although I'm generally a fairly conservative retired investor, I do have a small portion allotted to small caps. I'd like to pick up some LMN. However I wondered about the potential negative impact on share price in a challenging economic environment.

Not sure if this is a good reference / comparison, but I noticed CSU had four significant drawdowns of between 24-29% between the GFC and COVID time periods. I actually thought it would have been worse than that. Considering LMN is already down 15%, and assuming possible similar stock price action, I'm getting a bit more comfortable pulling the trigger even now.

I don't want to make this a predictive question, but do you think this stock price action is a reasonable comparison? Perhaps this is oversimplifying? Do we know if the valuation of LMN today lines up with the valuation of CSU back in 2008 prior to its drop?

Q: Another question on my semi annual balancing exercise. With the understanding that the rest of my portfolio consists of conservative growth, dividend paying large caps and that I am looking at a 3 to 5 year time frame. Please indicate the those companies you would carry at a 5 % ish level, those that you would carry at a 2% to 3% level and those that you might not carry at all. Much appreciated ram

Q: Hi, for smaller cap companies, what would be your max position sizing for someone that is a medium/high growth oriented investor. What are some criteria's you look at when sizing a position depending on if it is small, mid, or large cap? Beta/volatility, cyclicality? I'm guiding towards 5-8% for larger cap names such as CSU, BN, BKNG, GOOG, etc... and 2-3% for smaller names such as LMN, TVK, PRL, WELL, VHI, ATZ, etc.. I know for more volatile names, a smaller position can have just as large an impact in a portfolio. Thanks!

Q: Not a question but a comment on Lumine. I would think the recent woes of LMN have something to do with the CEO David Nyland taking a leave of absence.
