Q: A follow up question on portfolio construction. I’ve decided to try and get more dividends while I wait for capital appreciation inside my TFSA.

So the portfolio will be 20% International holding FLVI and VIU. 45% Canadian and will hold XDIV and CDZ. The 55% US will hold SPYD, VYM, HVD and all 11 sectors through Vanguard or ishares.

I’m looking to collect some dividends while I wait for capital gains and realize I will not get full dividends on the US ETFs. What are your thoughts on this set up, is there anything to improve either with diversification or higher dividends? Appreciate your service.

Q: I hold VEQT, QQC, XDIV, QDAY & GIAX. I am selling all stocks and moving to ETF. My goal is to keep it simple and less monitoring.

Do you think there is a need to own SP500 & TSX ETF. If yes which one would you recommend.

Q: Hi,

I’m a real estate investor and I love monthly distributions—HMAX and UMAX felt a lot like collecting rent. However, after realizing a significant portion of their payouts is ROC, I’m exploring alternatives that offer high dividends, low ROC, DRIP eligibility, and potential capital appreciation.

My horizon is 20+ years. Could you suggest 2–3 ETF ideas in Financials and Utilities that fit this profile in the Canadian market ideally or global.

Q: hi
I’m trying to build a simple ETF portfolio with TSX & S&P500 exposure so that’s it’s easy to add during dips.
For the S&P500 i’m thinking XSP.
Not sure what to do about the TSX. Undecided on XIU, XEI or XDIV. I realize the composition of each is different. Energy, Financials, Utilities etc. What would you do?

Q: This etf seems to have come out of the latest downturn without to much difficulty, so wandering what the reason for this latest performance. Is it because of the fairly low fees, or the quality of the stocks being held or is it a combination of a number of factors. I am thinking of investing in this etf for the long haul. Many tnx.

Q: I sold my individual dividend stocks and am replacing them with an ETF for simplicity. How would you rate/compare these dividendETFS? Which two do you prefer? Q: I have CAD to invest in Canadian-dollar denominated ETFs: (1) Canadian stocks - VGG. XIU XIC XDIV; (2) US ETFs in CAD FX - HXS ZUQ ZMID and ZBK and (3) - EU ETF - HXX. How to go about assessing one against the other. Is there a better ETF in each group you would prefer? Would appreciate guidance on which ones are keepers for long-term hold? How would you evaluate them?
