Q: I am thinking about moving some of my portfolio to ETF's, and when I looked at CDZ holdings, I was surprised to see FSZ as their top holding - a stock you have recently seen as a sell. Do you have any suggestions for a Canadian ETF that is more about great companies with a growing Dividend and not so heavy in Financials and Telcos? Thank You!

Q: Can I please get your opinion on this ETF for dividends and some growth. It seems to me this fund used to be nicely balanced with about 40 stocks all equally weighted and balanced sector wise. 20 US and 20 CAD holdings. Also the AUM looks to have decreased. The holdings and breakdown look much less appealing now, being overweight financials and energy not that different than any other Canadian div etf. thoughts and replacement options.
Thank you!

Q: As retirees we hold XEI and XTR for the Cdn income generation portion of our portfolio . Recently I discovered that there is also XDIV which has a much lower MER. Would you endorse moving completely out of XEI and XTR to XDIV instead?

Q: Hello, I have the Mackenzie fund mfc244 that has done very well for me over the years and pays me a nice dividend every month. Is the a cdn etf that would be comparable in performance and payout but would have a much lower mer? Thanks

Q: Happy New Year Peter and the 5i team! Thank you for another year of useful steady independent information flow to guide 5i members.

I am considering adding 5 large-cap or mid-cap Canadian sustainable dividend growth stocks that are currently under-valued in unloved sectors and now yielding at least 3%. MFC and SU stand out. What is your opinion about both as medium risk investments over the next 3-5 years?

In addition, please indicate your 3 best stock alternatives, and 3 best ETFs, in the medium risk large cap or mid-cap Canadian space with a solid record of dividend growth.

I realize this is a broad request so please deduct points as you deem appropriate.
Thank-you.

Q: One is an ETF while the other used covered calls to enhance dividends. Can you tell me what real difference there is between them aside from the 5% vs 10%+ div. I was thinking of buying XDIV but several of its holdings are the same as DFN which I own. Any point in also owning XDIV?
Thanks very much.

Q: Hi
If you had to put together a shopping list of solid long term dividend payers that you could pick-up if things went on sale again in the coming quarters, what would you buy? I'd want yields north of 7% so it would have to be a good sale. :)
And if you wanted to do it in one swoop with an ETF, would one of these be suitable: XEI or XDIV?
Thank you.

Q: Hello 5i Team,

My question is regarding the iShares Core MSCI Canadian Quality Dividend ETF. It hasn’t been around for very long and with less than 2 dozen holdings, it’s a rather concentrated fund. What do you think of MSCI’s quality screen? Would this be an appropriate core holding in a Canadian income portfolio?

Additionally, for funds with short histories such as XDIV, how much consideration would you give to the calculated historical performance of the underlying index published by companies such as MSCI, WisdomTree, etc. Are they a reliable tool in evaluating new funds?

Thank you!
