Q: Hi there,

1) I have already greatly benefited from your service during the two months that I have been a subscriber. Previously, I had subscribed to ShareOwner, but sadly the founder Dr. Bart passed away. From ShareOwner I learned about ROE, debt/equity ratio, earning retention ratio, asset turnover etc. However, I presume there are some differences between the analysis for small to mid-sized stocks. For small to mid-sized stocks, should I focus on cash flow growth ratio, revenue growth ratio or any other specific ratios? What reading material would you recommend for learning about analyzing small to mid-sized stocks?

2) What is the relationship between the price of crude oil to the stock performance of oil-related consumer stock (eg. ATD.B, PKI)?

3) Having recently seen in the news that Puerto Rico has filed for bankruptcy, how do you think this will impact the financial market as many financial institutions hold Puerto Rico's bonds. Do you think this will impact Canada's mortgage rates and how so?

Thank you,
Lai

Q: hello 5i:
I'm looking at a possible upgrade for our portfolio, as almost all energy names are down (and substantially), to date. Please rank the following, best to worst, using dividend, safety and growth in that order as criteria. This is a long term hold, so > 3 years. And would ALA be a better fit in the Utilities sector than energy?
thanks

Q: Looking to add a full position in your balanced equity portfolio ( which I am slow adopting). Currently overweight financial and energy so those are off the table. Could more or less add any other class and be ok for weighting. Recently added OTEX and ENGH as tech stocks so those are off the table along with MG, wsp. Which havew the best buying opportunity right now....wish I had picked up MX earlier this week when it tanked 4% on weak earnings...

Q: One report I read stated that to finance the acquisition PKI would issue 24 million shares to raise $660 million. That works out to $27.50 per share and the shares are currently trading near $31. In one of your earlier responses you also mentioned that shares would be issues at a discount. It would almost make sense for anyone like me who holds PKI to sell now into the market and buy back at the new issue price. Your thoughts?

Q: I am starting a TFSA for my wife, who is 5 years from retirement with an adequate pension. The stocks in question will be of equal weight. Your opinion on selection or other suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks

Q: Can you give me your thoughts on Parklands just released Q4 report. While they seem to rave about the increase in cash flow, in fact it went down by a penny on a per share basis and they gave a very small increase in the dividend this year. I am holding on hoping that the big acquisition that will close in Q2 2017 will give a big boost to cash flow. Your thoughts please on both the earnings and the acquisition...

Q: Hi, Parkland Fuels stock reacted very well to CST Brands acquisition, a few months ago and stock traded as high as $31. Price has retreated to $27-$28 range recently. Is there any reason, in your view, which is keeping a lid on its price? There was also a guest on BNN recently who claimed to be short the stock. I had a position from before and added at $29. What do you think ? Thanks

Q: I am just about to set up my portfolio. I am following your balanced equity portfolio. Most will be put into TFSA. I have to select about 6 to go in non registered. Obviously these would be the ones I would expect lower returns. Which ones should I select? I plan to keep not touch these investments for 8 years.

Q: would you consider all of these stocks energy and oil related? How much of total weight would you give in this sector at this time? Would you consider 13% total too high in this sector?

Thanks
