Q: Which ETF would you prefer, XDG or CYH, and why?

Q: I am looking for ideas for 3 ETFs (to complement an existing portfolio):
(a) small cap equities (preferably, global; if not, then US-focused);
(b) global equities, ex-U.S.
(c) emerging markets.
This is for a LIRA account. I'd like all 3 ETFs to be non-hedged, in Canadian dollars, to be Canadian situs (ideally), and not to have 15% withholding on distributions. I think "VEE" might meet all of these criteria for an emerging markets fund (am not sure).

about a year ago peter was on bnn and had covalon as a top pick, the next week the awful crista freeland had her saudi arabia tweet and covalon has been going downhill ever since culminating in last weeks disaster..i was a huge shareholder , but that week of freeland i sold every share i had never to return.
a lot of members who are afraid to lose one dollar have held on ever since ,and you seem to enable them by all the questions on covalon.
my question is why do you persist with covalon holding it in the growth portfolio as well,there is absolutely no reason to be there and you do this with a few others as well, the stars group comes to mine. i do not get it.

Q: Is TRI affected by the rumoured interest of the London Stock Exchange in Refinitiv? If so, what would be the expected impact be and how do you view TRI going forward - as an income only stock or growth and income because of their cash balance?

Q: I just noticed that 60% of ZAG’s holdings are other BMO bond ETFs, and the rest are direct bonds. I am wondering about the implications of this of MER, yield, and taxation.

In the BMO documentation for ZAG, they note “as ZAG is a fund of fund, the management fees charged are reduced by those accrued in the underlying funds,” which I find confusing. ZAG’s MER is 0.09%, but the underlying ETFs have MERs ranging from 0.11% to 0.33%. Is the 0.09% MER in addition to the MER paid to the underlying ETFs, or is it just 0.09%?

Does the ‘fund of funds’ characteristic of ZAG mean there are taxation issues in terms of it’s dividends being eligible dividends in Canada?

Are the dividends considered eligible dividends or interest?

Q: Good day 5i team: recently I have increasd my weight in ZST .and have felt that in the when not if correction ensuse think it may offer reasonable downside protection.can you advise on any alternative that might be better not counting high interest savings. Tks and all the best Larry

As retirees, and still with a longer-term horizon, my wife and I own (and like) Suncor (integrated), Prairie Sky (no debt) and Peyto (low cost producer) for minimal risk; second, dividend income, and third, capital growth. Oil & Gas is 4% of our diversified portfolio. We plan to keep Suncor. I am considering Freehold Royalty, Tourmaline, and Ensign Energy Services as possible replacements for PSK and PEY.
Q1: Do you feel the stock price declines in the Canadian oil and gas sector represent investor capitulation?
Q2: I would appreciate your comments on the 3 stocks being considered. Would any of TOU, FRU or ESI better meet our investment objectives, compared to our current holdings, PSK and PEY?

Q: Just a general question on the rules for tax loss selling. If I sell a stock and immediately sell puts on the same stock (expiry more than 30 days in the future). Do I still qualify for the tax benefit? Does the strike price have an impact?

Q: Re David's question about book value differences, that could change in a number of different ways, such as reinvested dividends on ETF's, stocks sold at a gain and new stocks repurchased, etc.

Q: Regarding earlier question on seeming overcontribution to TFSA, the discrepancy most likely involves dividend reinvestments which are added to book value.
