Q: Hey guys,

My health care and industrial sectors are on the low side (under 10%), please provide the top 3 plays (Canadian or American) in each sector. These picks would be going into a "balance" type portfolio.
Thanks
Jim

Q: Hi there 5I. I am looking at adding Cons cyclical/discretionary to my taxable portfolio and currently hold PLC(1.2%); WMT(3.1%) and PBH(2.1%). I am weighing the option of doubling down on WMT, or add CVS and/or BIG. Is there a preference in your professional opinion and/or are there considerations that I should consider for the upcoming holiday(thanksgiving, amazon prime days, xmas) seasons to the new year

Thank you

Q: I am personally fearing that the Trudeau government will sooner rather than later whack us with tax increases to pay for all the current largess. I predict one or more of a) capital gain inclusion going to 75% from 50% b) reduction of dividend tax credit c) inclusion of all or a portion of personal home sales capital gain as taxable or d) GST rate increase. This all of course would affect investment decisions. What likelihood do you see of each of these bombs dropping?

Q: Retired dividend-income investor. Long term holder of TRP. Would the recent decline in share price be attributable to the Biden-Trump debate #1, which analysts say Biden won (therefore putting Keystone XL at further risk) and/or the movement towards the change in sentiment (carbon-based vs renewable energy)?

I normally am a long term holder of core positions, with trimming/adding when rebalancing is required. I was due to add, once TRP came back down to $58. Now it is at $55 and I have adjusted my "adding" target to $50. I am not too far below a full position (at roughly 85%).

I do not plan to sell TRP believing that as the pandemic subsides, the oil & gas industry will recover. However, I am beginning to wonder that I may be better served to allocate these "top-up" funds to the renewable part of the energy sector instead. I also own AQN and FTS.

Your thoughts? Thanks for your help...Steve

Q: Hi 5i Team,
I was able to build up a half a position of WELL before it took off on me and have roughly a 150% profit on the position. I can't help but think the stock is a bit overvalued at this point and I have been pondering what, if anything, would be the best move long term in a TFSA account?
I was thinking of trimming the WELL position to bring it back to what I consider a normal full position and put the proceeds into either TCS and bring it to a full position or add to a SYZ position bringing it to .5 weighting?
Another possibility is just to let WELL run until I rebalance due to its weighting in my total portfolio which is my usual system of rebalancing.

Thank you for the advice and have a great weekend!

Q: I read over the internet that this European company has the only technology to produce the future generation of chips for the big manufaturers like intel and nvidia. I hear that they could be in a sort of monopoly situation because of the complexity of the machines that they manufacture. Is apple a customer of ASML with their chips ? Thanks for your opinion about this company.

Q: Hi 5i Team. Other than Horizon with HXT, HXS and HBB what other ETF providers (Canadian or US listed ETF's ) offer or have in their portfolio mix, Total Return ETF's that use swaps to reinvest dividends instead of paying them out. I'm looking for some tax efficiency with capital gains instead of payment's from dividends. Thx Steve.

Q: I would like to have a little fun with this question. Imagine a boxing match between Canadian companies and American companies...each round is represented by a sector so lets say it is a fight gone bad and there are extra rounds covering 11 sectors. Please pick a favourite Canadian Contender and a strong American contender for each round and who wins the round. Example Round 10 Technology Red corner Constellation Software vs Blue corner Microsoft. Won by Microsoft or Constellation Software. The rules...If you wish to give reasons why the round went one way or another, it's your choice. A good clean fight use the criteria of your investment strategies. The point...I am curious if the Canadian Companies stack up and in what areas I should be looking at South of the border. Thank you

Q: Hello 5i,
I held BEPC in a non registered US account as dividends supposedly were in US dollars. I sold BEPC and added to my BEP in that US non registered account. I also have BEP.UN in a non-registered Canadian account. Should I keep both BEP and BEP.UN or would it be advantageous to sell one of them and add to the other? If so, which one? I have increases in each but am within the portfolio percentage of where I want to be.
