Q: I have these stocks in my TFSA and most are doing okay. I have some extra cash to use to either beef up or buy another stock or ETF. I’m an income investor with also an interest in growth. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I appreciate your work immensely.

Q: BGI started out at $10.00 with a .15/qtr, dividend with a target yield of 6%, about 10 years ago. It has managed to keep paying the .15 quarterly dividend since, but the unit value has been mostly below 10.00 since it started. It appears now to be trading near it's 10 year low and the current yield is over 12%. It looks like further downside is possible with rising interest rates and also as it trades at a premium to book value. It looks like the payout ratio is over 300% at present. Your thoughts on the following questions. Is the dividend safe at the current level given the securities it holds? With the payout ratio so high is the Fund forced to do an equity issue to maintain it, or do return of capital payments? Do you feel this is a good entry point? Finally, how likely do you feel that they may reduce the dividend back to the 6% yield level in order to preserve cash in the fund? Please deduct as many credits required to answer. Thank you for the great service. ...Will

Q: I am a retired income investor. I own a lot of the various Brookfield companies. I have held BGI.un for quite some time and, unlike the Brookfied companies, I am well under water. It is very thinly traded. I have no problems keeping BGI because it fits my need for dividends but I am wondering if it is dead money and will keep slipping. Can I have your opinionon its future

Q: Hi 5i,
Would you please provide an explanation of the announcement July 23 by Brookfield Global Infrastructure of establishing an At The Market Equity Program. They don't say how the cash raised will be used. Is this to raise money for the fund to invest in more infrastructure assets? It seems timely right now given so many advisors are suggesting to invest in infrastructure. Your thoughts please. Thanks

Q: Hello 5i Team

I am reviewing global infrastructure / real asset closed end funds as a means to diversify into US/Global infrastructure companies. Two examples I could find on the Canadian Market are Brookfield Global Infrastructure Securities Income Fund (BGI.UN) and Middlefield Global Real Asset Fund (RA.UN).
Questions are:

1 - Which is the better choice BGI.UN or RA.UN?
2 - Any Canadian or US listed ETFs that I should be looking at?
3 - Any other Canadian Closed End Funds I should be looking at?
4 - Any US listed Closed End Funds I should be looking at?
5 - What is a reasonable MER for these products (BGI.UN is 1.25 % and RA.UN is 1.10 %)?
6 - What is the minimum assets under management (AUM) I should be looking at ( BGI.UN is +/- $102M and RA.UN is +/- $100M)?
7 - Any other items to review?
Thanks

Q: Hi 5i Research Team:

I have traded Forex before and am new to stock trading. 90% of my RRSP, RESP and TFSA is in cash and I'd like to avail the current market conditions by "gradually" buying the dips.. and holding it over the long term, 5 to 10 years. I understand that no one can time the market or its bottom.

After exploring the reports and questions on your site, I have identified the enclosed 29 stocks based on following criteria:
- Current Retracements of > 75% over 52 week high & low
- Dividend Yield > 5% (in some cases, like WEED, which is a bit risky, I understand there's no dividend in the near term.. and I am simply going for the upside swing over the next 2 years... same for CRON and Air Canada)

Considering my 90% cash position and strategy to partially buy in on dips over the next few weeks, can you please advise if my stock selection is sound. In addition to my stock picks, please advise anything else that I should keep in mind.

Thanks for everything you do. Much appreciate.

Q: Bgi recently announced a change to the fund manager. Is this a good or indifferent change? Also, the fund has done quite well recently is there a reason such as recent buy back of shares or us this increase sustainable. Along with Bgi I also own Bip.un In the same riff account ( as a result of the Enercare takeout) I wonder if I should own both or is there an overlap?

Q: I like to own brookfield companies as they give me good diversity and excellent dividends. These two funds are almost identical in their holdings mostly I guess since they are managed by the same individuals. I am thinking of buying INF instead of BGI mostly because the Portfolio analytics treats the geographic diversity more correctly and right now I have the US funds. I do realize this is a bit of an artificial reason and BGI pays a lower dividend but can you see any glaring reasons why this is not a good idea?
Thanks

Q: Hi,
I am looking for income and considering the above Brookfield companies. Would you please provide an overview of the different tax treatments of the income distributions. Are they best held in a registered or a non-registered account? Also, do you prefer one company over the other and if so why? Thank you

Q: I would welcome your thoughts on Brookfield Global Infrastructure BGI.UN. I am considering it purely as an income play. Safety and consistency (or potential for increase) in the dividend are my only concerns with this investment. If it isn't deemed to be too risky, I might consider taking as much as a 5% position in it. If the statistics indicated on the TMX website may be relied upon, it appears to be trading at a very reasonable P/E multiple of 8 times and its price to book value of 1.018 also seems to me to indicate that one isn't paying a particularly high premium for it. I however, have no idea how someone should properly assess the value of such an investment and so I am seeking your thoughts and guidance. Thank you!
