Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Please briefly describe the major differences between the services these 2 companies offer. Are they direct competitors or are they complementary i.e. diversify exposure. If wanting to add exposure to cybersecurity is one preferable? is there a better long-term growth option in this space? This would be for a long term hold. Thank you.

Q: Hi Gents,

No secret that these 3 stocks are ones recommended by Bruce Campbell on BNN. I've followed him a bit in the past and found he seems to like the type of stocks that 5i does, one of his past reccos was LSPD DOC, etc.

He recommended the above 3 stocks this week and just wanted to know what your professional opinion is of these 3.

They differ from those held in the 5i ports, the writeup on them are interesting and rather unique, your comments historically on them (although not plentiful) seem pretty positive.

So if you took a fresh look at the 3 of them, their outlook for growth, and their investability do you agree with him that they all have significant runway and seem to be credible companies with good management?

Appreciate your view here.

Thanks

Sheldon

Q: Hi 5i team,
Within the telecommunication industry, I want to seek for companies that have good growth forecast, reasonable pricing, and mild volatility compared to peers. Dividends Not important. Among T, BCE, and QBR.b, which would be your preference and why, or is there another name you like better? Thanks.

Q: Buy & Sell are specific recommendations. Hold is confusing? I’ve heard that analysts don’t want to issue sell recommendations for various reasons and that hold means sell. The question I would like answered is;
Why would you hold a stock you would not buy?
I have started a thread in the brokerages and research section of the forums if anyone wants to comment.

Q: Hello Peter,
In the current market conditions,
1) what is your opinion on adjusting the portfolio by decreasing growth and an increase in defensive stocks; at least for the next six months.
2)If so, what do you think of Charter Communications?
3)I understand that you are not a proponent of frequent portfolio adjustments and prefer to ride out based on long term fundamentals. I feel that in addition to algorithmic trading, markets are more efficient with processing information and price it in a very short span of time. Your comments on this thesis as well is appreciated.
Regards.

Q: I hold a full position in WM with most of the position coming from the takeover of Balmoral Resources. Although the recent share issue is at a good share price it adds to the high number of outstanding shares. There is also is very little attention paid to their nickel assets. Is WM a buy, hold or sell at this time ? Thanks for this great service.

Q: When might the Canadian banks be permitted to resume raising their dividends? When it does occur, do you think it will have a significant effect on their share prices?

Q: What is going on at Couche Tard? First of all they tried to acquire a French grocery retailer and now they are selling 4% of their North American Stores. What do you think their strategy is for the future? Seems like they want to diversify into something other than convenience stores. What is your opinion of the company and their management? I own some shares and am up 25 %.
Thanks

Q: Are you in general agreement with today's conclusion from TD Equity Research on Q4 results? For those willing to "hang in", it appears there is descent upside from here:
2021 midpoint revenue guidance implies more than25% revenue per-share growth and continues to imply a constructive outlook forXebec across its various end-markets (hydrogen, RNG, and other gasses). However,we believe that Xebec is firmly in "show-me" territory with investors and, based on thefactors described above, we are increasing our risk rating to SPECULATIVE (fromHigh previously), consistent with other companies in the Cleantech sector that are notexpected to generate meaningfully positive cash flow in the near term. This changein risk profile requires a rating change to SPECULATIVE BUY (from Buy previously).Based on our revised estimates, and an increase in the discount rate we employ, ourtarget price decreases to $7.50 (from $10.00 previously).
The report also mentioned XBC is abandoning it custom made RNG equipment products and will sell only standard equipment going forward.

Q: Where would you put the odds of TFI doing an equity financing prior to closing the UPS deal? Is it possible they might finance the purchase with debt alone? With the deal expected to close in the second quarter, when would you expect any financing to be announced? For an investor looking to add to their TFI holding, would you recommend waiting to take advantage of the drop in the stock price that an equity deal would likely cause?

Q: I'm down ~15-20% on these names and contemplating a tax loss swap.
For each of these, do you think there are suitable proxies or are they are hard to replace?
For FLNT in particular, I'm considering dumping it all together, so a similarly battered small-cap name you think will perform better will work as well.
Finally, when it comes to tax-loss selling, do you have a rule of thumb on the % down a name should be before it makes sense, or it's generally situation dependant?

Q: New to the site here. Why are there companies in the model portfolios that are not rated? If you are recommending them why wouldn't you rate them? Thanks!
