Q: I recently made a switch out of HWO into BIR, as I am of the mindset that BIR should do well (better than HWO) in the upcoming months because of potential bottle-necking of supply of oil in the upcoming months (this theory was mentioned by Josef Schachter on a recent BNN appearance), as well as BIR's current price being discounted significantly from book value. My question is if I should consider starting a new position in HWO at some point in the future, because if the theory about bottle-necking of supply proves to be accurate, then a company such as HWO would benefit as demand for drilling new wells would increase in response. Thanks so much, and I look forward to your response.

Q: I've noticed very divergent opinions on the future of the Canadian dollar versus other currencies. My own opinion is it's headed down but, as you know, these things are difficult to predict especially when unknown political decisions can suddenly change things. Do you have opinions in this area? How do you anticipate the Canadian dollar will perform versus the US dollar, the Euro, the Pound, etc? Do you make recommendations regarding the amount of foreign exposure in investment portfolios based on forex implications. If so, where (US, European, emerging markets, etc.) and what percentage?
Feel free to choose your own time periods if you feel able to answer this.

Q: Hi 5i team,
What are your thoughts on FTG's recent earnings?
I see it is/was down 11% today (Thurs). Is this an over reaction?
Is it a good entry point for a 1/3 to 1/2 initial position?
How does it look going forward and is it simply that the results reflect the digestion of it's recent acquisition(s)? It seems to be getting some decent simulator component contracts.

Cheers.....
Steve

Q: Can retail investors ask their broker(say Td) to make their trades Anonymous (broker #1) or is that just available to institutional players? I notice selling of Questor shares by anonymous and wonder if the seller is trying to make shares available on the cheap before next week's management meetings with institutions and analysts.

Q: I would appreciate your suggestion for two of your favourite stocks right now, in Real Estate and Energy. I was thinking about Tricon ... ??? and ????

This will be for an RRSP Account, in Canadian Currency.

I own Brookfield Renewables (BEP.UN) and Algonquin Power (AQN) already in this account, each roughly 5%. I have no weighting in Energy/Oil/Gas specifically, just in utilities. If adding another company in a similar space is too much weighting, please advise.

Thanks much!

Q: Do you feel XON has turned a corner? Q4 numbers seemed generally positive. Maybe they have now beat expectations 2 quarters out of 8! (Ouch) Has their short position and insider ownership changed? I am standing on the sidelines but thinking of initiating a position to no more than 1.5% weighting. Any other comments you think are appropriate would be appreciated.
Thanks as always.

Q: In an attempt to incorporate more value stocks into my portfolio, can you please suggest your favorite companies (excluding utilities and financials) that adhere (or come close to) Greenblatt's formula for selecting value stocks (ie. high earnings yield and strong ROC)?

Thanks.

Q: A recent article in the Globe was citing an RBC analyst as saying it was time to go underweight on tech stocks.
I have the following weightings in my portfolio -
ENGH - 6% ; SYZ, KXS and DSG 4% each.
Do you see any of these as being seriously overvalued? I have very good gains on all and have taken profits on all except KXS as they have moved up.
Any comments are appreciated.

Q: Perhaps Ron, who was considering Russian ETF's could read the book "Red Notice" by Bill Browder to get a handle on how business is done in Russia.

Q: We hold 50% of our portfolio in your stocks from the balanced portfolio - 34% in your income portfolio and 16% in your growth portfolio. Although not all stocks from the three portfolios are in our final portfolio we have done this to have a large part of our income from dividends in cash accounts that when combined with CPP and OAS require only 2% return from the cyclic stocks to give us all the money needed to live the life we require. My question is would we be just as well represented with a complete investment in the balanced portfolio (we are only shy WEF, TECK, MX and MG) than having 35 stocks from the three portfolios. We were rewarded with a return last year only 2% less than the return of the balanced portfolio. I know this is an involved question but we respect your advise so much I felt that it was one we should ask....thanks you....Eugene
