Q: Good morning!
As a dividend investor, I am noting that BNS now pays 1.25% higher dividend than EIF. I hold full positions in each. I am considering selling EIF and doubling down on BNS. I see BNS as having - as well as a higher dividend - an upside in the order of 50% when the economy stabilzes and perhaps the Ukraine war is over. I do see growth from EIF, but think that in a 2 to 5 year window EIF might see steady growth with perhaps a maximum of 25% upside, seemingly less than the bank. What do you think of this reasoning, and are there any reasons why this might not be a good idea? This swap would be in registered accounts (50% TFSA and 50% RIF), so there are no immediate tax implications.
Thanks! ... Paul K
Q: Would either one of these companies be worthwhile taking a position in today? We have owned Pepsi several years ago and we’re happy with it then.
Thanks
Q: Please rank the above companies for level of risk and do you think that our Canadian banks could ever be subject to the issues at SVB? Is BN risky? I read one person writing how his advisor won't let him buy it. Feeling like I don't have much trust in anything right now. How is an investor to handle this uncertainty? I definitely see the benefits of diversity as you had always pushed. I'm also somewhat confused as most advisors have been pushing financials due to the benefits associated with rising rates. Your calm advise would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Q: In my last question I did not have the correct symbol for Sentinel One. (question picked up on Sherrit, which I don't own) Please compare the three cybersecurity companies in terms of hold for recovery, sell for tax loss. I am holding all three at a loss.
Q: STEP has dropped farther than I expected after the fourth quarter and year-end report. What do you think was the main cause, and do you think the pendulum is swinging a bit too far?
Q: Hi Peter and Team, in what specific TSX traded product would you put $100k Cdn today if you wanted safety and availability over the next 6-12 months ? Recent comments here suggest HSAV may not currenty be the best choice. I apologize for asking re: well trodden ground but I must confess I'm a little confused re: the best choice. Thank you.
Q: My sister needs to park around $90,000 which she intend to put on a house down-payment next February.
She can get around 4.5% for a 9-month GIC.
From reading your website over the years, I know that the above funds are also an option. However, I don't know how to judge the return that can be expected.
Which of the two options (GIC or one of these funds) would you recommend?
Happy Friday! Question for you about investing in vehicles related to copper. It feels like we are in and headed for a greater supply crunch for Copper as a commodity and I am wondering what your thoughts are on the direction of copper and best ways to be involved in the sector.
I put Foran Mining Company as the specific company for this question as I know Pierre Lassonde is involved in that and he is a legend in the industry so curious on your thoughts on it or if you have other ideas. Please feel free to take more than one credit if this is multiple questions.
Any reason for the LifeCo's selling off? Is it just all financials being caught in this sell-off? I'd have thought rising rates would be good for them. Thx.
Q: What are the companies getting attractive in these times?..I bought some BN..it had a 4% drop yesterday..Please suggest any quality companies to watch. Thanks.
Q: I have held TOY for a number of years while its done nothing and I am considering a switch to ATZ. Before I throw in the towel on TOY, I would like to check a few things with you:
1) what are the current and projected P/E's for each stock?
2) what are the projected growth rates for each stock?
3) I believe TOY has a rock solid balance sheet, do you have any concerns about ATZ's balance sheet and ability to weather a possible recession? If so, ewhat are the concerns?
4) On a scale of 1-10 what are the chances of each company still being around in 5-10 years?
5) which stock has better short term and which has better long term opportunites? 6) would you make the switch?
