Investment Q&A
Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.
Q: Why do you have so many stocks not rated (NR) in your portfolio even some of those with higher allocations? How do you arrive at your ratings? Perhaps as a newcomer i missed explanation somewhere that is given already. Finally how do I get a nickname? thks
Q: I currently have small positions in both of the above and want to consolidate. Which do you suggest I sell to buy the other. I have gains on both but taxes not a factor. Longer term investor here, just don't want small positions.

Q: Hi team. I'm ok with some risk and am 100% equities with an average 13% return per year over 10 years thanks to your team!!
Now my question. We sold an investment property with the plan to use the money to fund a new investment property which will be built in 3 years...so this is my time frame. The money will be split between a TFSA & a taxable account, with the taxable account having about 75%.
What do you think if these for the TFSA - CSU, BN, SHOP and DOL?
These for the taxable - WSP, ENB, TFII, DSG, BNS, SU, ATD, BEPC, H, and a little more DOL?
Would you reorganize these between the 2 accounts? Alternatively, would you choose something else due to the timeframe?
Thanks a lot!

Q: With a debt-to-equity ratio to 99.4% does CNR have too much debt to continue operate successfully?
Q: This stock had some positive price action the last couple days, was there any news or upgrades or just volatility?

Long term growth investor.
Would you suggest trimming across the board or are there any names you would swap if one wanted to high grade their portfolio.

Q: Here's a thesis that I would like you to evaluate:
BDI provides housing to energy sector workers.
BDI has been doing this for years, housing people.
We are currently in a residential housing crisis.
Do you think that BDI could profitably partner with federal, provincial and municipal governments to help solve our current residential housing crisis by tweaking its market focus?
What is holding the company back from addressing this obvious market failure (to provide housing)?
Thank you.

Q: I am looking to get into safer investments and wondering which railway - Canadian or US - to buy. This would be held in a TFSA so growth would be preferred but total return is good too.

Q: Hi,
In the 5i BE model portfolio ATD is listed as being in the sector "C. Non-Cyc", however in the 5i company profile page ATD is listed as being in the sector "Consumer Discretionary". Which sector is ATD considered a part of?
Also, can you give me some ideas in the consumer staples category (Canada)?

Q: On May 27th you answered this question to Esther with these stocks BKNG, ULTA, AXON, ABNB, UBER, ADBE, FI, ODFL, HEI, AZO, ORLY, ARES.
.
My question is in general when you list a number of stocks in your answers do you list them from most desirable to least?
If not, can you do so, just to maintain some consistency?
Thanks
Sheldon

Q: Re your portfolio analytics tool - I am pretty sure you may not agree with my portfolio….all Canadian dividend payers - financials, pipelines, utilities, telcos etc…you will think I have too much in financials. I live off the dividends without need to touch the capital (other than for some tax planning). I know most investment managers would advise that I should diversify a lot more, but I am comfortable with the composition. With this portfolio in mind and my comfort level, what benefit will your portfolio analytic tool offer me if you accept that I don’t want to hear that I should diversify? I’m trying to figure out if I should upgrade and what benefit I may enjoy. Thanks. Feel free to make this question either private or public.
