Q: Hello 5i team, the listed companies have had a rough period in terms of performance in the last 8 months seeing an average of 30% loss over the past year.

What are your current thoughts on them and what would you recommend for an investor looking for a long term hold?

Q: Hello. David Rosenberg’s latest per a Globe article today:

“Best to hide in cash, bonds (Treasuries, Ginnie Mae mortgages, high-quality corporates), gold and the miners (silver too), defensive bond-proxies in the stock market that have decent yields and consistent dividend payout growth (stable dividend stocks are up +5% year-to-date), Japanese money market funds (ride the most undervalued currency on the planet and a BoJ set to raise short-term interest rates sooner rather than later), and diversify into the European Defense and Capital Goods sectors which now have more fiscal-related visibility.”

Can you provide some specific ideas (stocks and or ETFs) that match up with his recommended areas to ride this out?

Q: Please suggest a few names that are a good buying opportunity ( and at what price) in this voilatile market….. something that we can buy and hold for 5 yrs.

I am not looking for a quick profit….. but something to buy at a good price in this volatility and hold.

Also I hold Amazon in an RRSP and Vanguard in an RESP. Is it a good time, with the market drop, to increase holdings?

Q: How do you see the ATD stock reacting if they are able to buy the North American retail business of Seven & I? (initial reaction) And how do yo see it reacting if they cannot reach and agreement to purchase these assets? Does the U.S. SEC have to endorse the purchase?

Could you provide your opinion of the likely direct and indirect impact of the promised US tariffs (or just the threat of same even if they don't ultimately come to pass) on the 1-to-2-year SP of the five noted names? I 'm not confident in my ability to discern which companies have a significant degree of immunity (although I think these 5 may).

My portfolio does not have any meaningful allocation in the basic materials sector. Given the recent drop in equities (and possible future declines) was looking to add some resource stocks. CS and TECK.B in the copper sector looked interesting with the data centre/ chip boom underway.

What are your thoughts on these companies and is there a preference? What would you consider to be a good entry price in the potential market dips to come?

Would also appreciate any other resource stock ideas you might have in this current market.(Aside from Nutrien I know your a fan of and I already own.)

I'm not averse to risk and looking to hold at least 5+ years.

Q: With the pull-back, I want to take positions in the above at an appropriate weighting for a long term hold - the Canadian holdings and NVDA at full position, the others at 2-3%. Q: I am getting ready to DCA into these stocks in an unregistered account with higher than average risk profile. According to me, these stocks had a bit of a pullback with possibly more on the way.

In what order would you DCA into the stocks mentioned above? Is there any stock that you think should be excluded from this list?

I am looking to invest for my kids resp. Currently only hold a balanced fund and Ppl which I bought in the 2020 collapse. Now I am wondering about buying a quality stock which has been unjustifiably (as far as we can tell) sold off in the recent sell off of growth names. I am thinking of Prl. Would you consider it safe enough to invest in a resp account? I also note that its div is decent while I wait for recovery . I have about 4-5 years before I would have to sell it . If you don’t think Prl is a good fit do you have better suggestions ?
