Q: It appears Globalstar has not denied the rumours about selling itself to Starlink. So there must be some truth to the rumours. Presumably once Musk controls Globalstar he would cancel or buyout Globalstar’s contract with MDA leaving MDA with no business? I understand Apple owns 20% of Globalstar so they would have to agree to the Musk buyout. I can see Apple not wanting to be at Musk’s mercy but also not wanting to operate Globalstar’s business. Any idea what the future holds for MDA. I’m a shareholder.

5i Research Answer:

While it is possible, it is still at this point all speculation. MDA reports on Nov 14, and so far has stated it will not comment on market rumours. MDA Space’s exposure to Globalstar is significant both financially and strategically, as this contract anchors a large component of its future revenue and positions it centrally in the ongoing race to supply advanced LEO satellite technology. But a contract is a contract, and MDA would be compensated for any changes. It would still have the ability to add other customers. We also think Canada would support the company, either financially or with new contracts. For now, uncertainty is hurting the stock but we think the revised price reflects a lot of worry, and we would remain comfortable, but with extra dilgence for news items and close attention to comments made this week on the earnings release.
