Q: Can you please provide your comments and thoughts on this mining company and whether you view it as a reasonable speculative investment? (Yes, I know that can be seen as an oxymoron!)
Q: Your thoughts on the above at these prices. Do you think efx has good upside with nautural gas given the nod for 2020 and going forward?
Q: You recently recommended these 2 US companies. Please tell me more about them and why you recommended them?
Happy New Year to you and your staff.

Q: Hello 5I: Just a miscellaneous query. BYD.UN has recently reorganized and has become BYD. Someone here threw out the idea that this company might want to list in the USA and you answered saying there are no such plans known. But if they ever did want to list in the USA, what would they trade under....there already is a USA company with that ticker, "BYD", (Boyd Gaming Corp). Would they have to use a different ticker there? would that cause confusion?
Thank you for your excellent service.

Q: Greetings 5i - I am helping my 29-year old daughter with her TFSA. She has $9,500 to invest and we're thinking about putting it into VFV:CA so she has some US exposure. She currently holds BNS, FTS, PPL and PBH. Alternatively, we were thinking of dividing it between AQN and ATD.B or BAM. Would appreciate your thoughts on what's best for a long term hold. Happy New Year to you all.
Q: I am a rookie and do not want trouble with the 'taxman'. Ha!Ha! If I have a loss in my Canadian Cash Account can I apply it to a capital gain in my USA Cash Account? I believe I cannot receive a tax loss in my Tax Free Savings Account. Is that true? Finally my RIF Account...I believe it is a separate entity...I cannot claim losses with other accounts OR within the account itself...I just pay income tax when money is withdrawn. Am I in error here?
Thanks for the clarification!

Brookfield Global Listed Infrastructure Income Fund Closed End Fund (INF)
-
Brookfield Real Assets Income Fund Inc. (RA)
Q: Good morning,
I have become aware of RA and INF through your Q/A section. I currently own VZ and XUS in my US dollar accounts for income. I am considering replacing them with INF due to the higher return. However, I note that INF which is stock based, will be merging with RA which is fixed income based. I also note that RA is four times bigger than INF so the merged funds will become a largely fixed income portfolio. Furthemore, only 20% of RA investments are rated BBB or higher. I wonder if RA is able to pay such a high dividend because it bought these perhaps sub-par investments well below par. My question is whether the extra dividend provided by INF/RA outweighs its risk relative to XUS and VZ.

Q: Just wondering if the "dividend" could be of a capital dividend and therefore the affect is similar to a pure capital gain. The tax reporting through the T3 should answer this.
Q: We have a small 1% weighting in both MU and KEYS and we are thinking of selling MU and buying more KEYS with the proceeds. We already have a 4.2% weighting in NVDA plus substantial positions in CSU, ENGH and SYZ to a lesser degree.
While MU is showing good momentum now it seems to be more cyclical than KEYS. NVDA also seems to be somewhat cyclical, charting similar to MU, at least looking back over 2019. I realize KEYS is much smaller than MU so by switching to KEYS we could be taking on more risk however with a 2% weighting it is maybe not too dangerous.
The other option would be to sell SYZ and use the proceeds to bump up both MU and KEYS. This would reduce our dividend income of course but I think we could manage with less dividend.
Any recommendations?
Your website lists a KEYSW:US without any questions on the stock. Has KEYS sold warrants? I can't find a listing on RBC direct investing.
Thanks,
Jim

Q: Happy new year. Given the Brookfield brand, the premium assets owned, the relatively low leverage and the current discount to nav, why is the market not liking this stock? Is this dividend level sustainable in your opinion? Thanks
Q: The stock has been down the last 2 days on slightly higher volume.
With oil price moving up, this should be a positive but stock not acting well.
Anything the I am missing here? Thanks

Q: What is the outlook for pho this year. As well what do l do about tsgi considering the merger?
Q: I just noticed on my transaction history, as did Geoff (Dec. 17), that a sizable portion of the money I received for Dream Global is listed as a dividend. I too had assumed the transaction to be mostly a capital gain, and sold VET at a loss to offset the gain. If this $10 per unit truly is a dividend, then I, like many others I`m sure, will have a big chunk of unexpected taxable income to choke on! (The circular did mention a bit of an extra distribution without mentioning an amount, but made it sound modest.) For me, as a senior of modest income, this`ll mean a year of lost government benefits. Live and learn, eh. Next time, just sell as soon as the offer is made!
Q: I currently own CRH. Do you think you think a switch to GUD would provide more upside?
Q: in your answer to Richard on january 3rd you pointed out a target price for Flutter of 93.92 Euro, should have this been in GBP and therefore target price for TSGI be rather north of CAN$ 36. If target price for tsgi is $30.something, i would be selling first thing on monday morning. Could you give all members us clarification for this. Thank you
