Q: Greetings 5i,

I sock away a bit of cash for the summer months as i find there is always a few opportunities to pick up a good companies at a discount. I limit this to a small portion of my portfolio but would like your recommendations on your top 5 CDn (growth) and 5 top US Dividend Payers (need US income) that you would pick up on a dip or low volume during the summer months? Last August was a great example of picking up really good names at a discount. I realize there are no guarantees that we will see the same market but always on the lookout to pick good long term names to add to my portfolio. In the past i have picked up Visa, JPM this way.

Thanks for your advice.

Q: If you could add any company to a portfolio what would be your top 3 companies (regardless of current holdings) taking into account valuation and current share price. Can you also provide earnings expectations for 2018/2019 for the three names provided? Thanks

Q: Hi!
I'm concerned about the potential for a looming recession in the context of increasing interest rates, especially in the US. As a way to hedge against increasing interest rates and to protect against downside risk, I was wondering if you could recommend some high growth, high dividend paying stocks, US or Canada?
Thanks!

Q: I sold Dhx.b for tax loss selling and maybe repurchasing after 30 days. However, the high debt load does concern me. Do you have any alternatives in the consumer discretionary sector at this time. Not looking for a trade but rather a long term hold.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you at 5i.

Q: Hi Peter,

Thank you for your new design and continued service. I have decided to sell PUR in my TFSA ($5k) and take the profit and reinvest. I was looking at growth stocks in Canada and did not like the alternatives (maybe ZCL or SHOP). My options appear to be in the USA or Asia. IF you could choose one growth stock (even a CDN one), which stock would you choose for a TFSA.
We have KXS, SYZ, AQN, FTS, FSZ, MFC, BNS, SIS

Thank you
Jerry and Debbie

Q: Hi team,

I am heavy in tech as usual and have to scale back every once in a while. I now have some cash to deploy in other sectors. I offset my tech with industrials, financials, consumer and utilities. I avoid resources as I find it just drains my capital. I am growth and an “active” investor.

I am looking at adding a consumer stock, either BCI or ZZZ. I read your recent report on BCI and am intrigued by the trend of aging demographics and the increasing need for glasses and contact lenses. You give it a relatively strong B+ rating and it is in your Growth portfolio. I have been watching it the past week or so. It is a very thin trader. No trades at all today and bid/ask about $1.00 apart, a wide spread for a $35 stock. Would have been wider except for my bid which did not get filled.

I used to own ZZZ and got lucky in selling before the last earnings release when it missed estimates. I have been watching that lately as well. It seems to be moving up steadily from $32 and now hovers above $33, still well off its 52 week high. On Monday, the TSX approved a NCIB for ZZZ that is normally supportive of the share price.

So, should I buy some eyeware or sleepware or a bit of both to get a good night’s sleep?

Thanks again,
dave
