Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: These are the big losers in my portfolios.
So sick of looking at them and waiting for improvement (which I know is unlikely and a bad idea). My wife’s analysis of my investment strategy is “break even quick”. Are any worth holding, or is it time to just jettison the works?
I don’t mind a bit of risk, but am thinking they’re just mistakes, at this point. I believe I have a diversified portfolio over all, with none of these being overweight.

Thanks for your help.

Q: Unfortunately I am down over 50% on all these stocks (held in my TFSA). I am “cleaning house”.
Please give your opinion as to whether any have the potential to recover and are worth holding for a bit longer.
Thanks for your help.

Q: Pollard bank note is down at 52 week lows. It has come off sharply from its highs, which were probably way too high. Someone last week on Market Call, I think it was Tcascy, said that labor was up because PBL was so busy they had to have people work lots of overtime and because of that they added another shift so next quarters earnings should look much better. Sounds plausible but I have not been able to check if that is true. What does 5i know and what is your opinion of PBl in general? I have started a small position but not sure if I should add if it takes another leg down.

Q: Could you rate these 3 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being best, for a turnaround after all being beat up pretty good in the last 3-9 months for increased earnings, growth and which one has the best management and which one would you start a position today for a 1-2 year hold or do they need more time to consolidate thank you

Q: I held a smallish position in Canada Goose, and was getting less optimistic about sales growth, particularly in China, and sold half early in 2021 at about $53. Obviously should have sold all of it.
Today's results were disappointing with regard to the outlook.

(1)Wondering what you think of the GOOS results.

(2) If I sell the remaining GOOS shares, I would add to an existing smallish position in one of Pollard Banknote, Park Lawn or Trisura. How would you rank these 4 companies, GOOS, PBL, PLC, TSU, as part of a balanced portfolio with a tolerance for risk?

Q: Looking at some Canadian companies that are involved in various aspects of consumer activity such as retail, investing, borrowing. Please rate each of the following on a scale of 1-10 for desirability for a 5+ year hold in a well diversified portfolio. Looking for good total return with a higher than average tolerance for share price volatility. These would not be core positions. CF, EQB, GOOS, NFI, PBI, PLC, TSU, TOY, ZZZ.
