Q: I am just entering retirement and my financial advisor wants to increase my fixed income weighting to 55% of my portfolio, in order to reduce risk. My feeling is that this would be dead money (at best!) for some time to come because interest rates are likely to rise.. Can you get out your crystal ball and estimate the probability of each of the following annualized total return outcomes for a bond portfolio over the next 5 years. The portfolio would be geographically diversified, 70/30 investment grade vs, high yield and average duration of 5 years.
> +5% -
+2.5% to +5% -
0 to +2.5% -
0 to -2.5% -
-2.5% to -5% -
worse than -5% -
Thanks.

Q: If ones owns shares in company ‘x’ in their TFSA, and one wants to buy more shares but they have no more cash in their TFSA, what is left is buying more shares in a cash account. In the cash account, is the cost base determined only on the shares in the cash account, or are the shares inside the TFSA used in the cost base determination?
Thank you

Q: When I first contracted for the portfolio analytics product I had an investment in MFS International Eq Segregated Fund A and you were kind enough to tell me the name I should use to input that investment in my portfolio. I transferred the full amount of that seg fund into another SLF seg fund entitled "Leith Wheeler International seg Fund" today and I need to know what name/title I should use in my analytics portfolio. Could you provide me with a name please. Thanks you Mike

Q: I am hoping you can help with some suggestions for review for a RRIF portfolio. The plan is for one third to be invested in a 5 year laddered bond portfolio. Is it best to buy bonds or an ETF ? Please suggest a couple of bond ETF's for review.

The remainder would be invested in equity ETF's. Half would go to 3 or 4 ETF's which would pay dividends and would have some growth potential. The remaining third would be invested in 3 or 4 ETF's focused on growth.

Obviously the dividend tax credit is of no benefit in the RRIF but currency fluctuations would be a consideration.

Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.

Q: Hi Guys
Just curious why last March during the big sell off, XLB traded down so far. I would have though during times of crises, people would run into buying Govt Treasuries for Safety.
Also, at what yield would people consider buying back into XLB, i think the current yield is around 3.3 % My current Portfolio weighting is 2.06% and I'm down 11% you think its a good idea to increase my position to around 4% at this time. I'm also about 40% in GICs , which should perform inversely .
thanks

Q: Hi team,
I was wondering if you could briefly describe the business model of eglx. I realize it’s a gaming platform , but how do they make money, and what are their plans for long term growth? On a separate note I am a little confused as to why eglx is being compared to scr? From what I gather scr is pretty much solely online sports betting now , and eglx is gaming? Also, would eglx be one to buy right now? And how bullish are you on the name? Is it a potential multi bagger ? Thanks

Q: In a well diversified portfolio, thanks to Portfolio Analytics if one wanted to be overweight in one or more industries which would you pick? Which would go underweight? Long term holder but don't mind playing trends as the post pandemic era comes to fruition.

Q: I am up 72% on TFII in my TFSA account, the total value of this holding represents ~2% of my portfolio. The funds in my TFSA are targeted for growth and I have no immediate need for the cash so I can take on reasonable risk for greater reward with a longterm view. Should I sell my holding to realize the capital gain or hold? If you suggest selling what would you suggest as a replacement?

Q: I just sold a US stock that represents about 5% of my RIF and about 23% of my US holdings in the RIF. Income is obviously OK but some growth would also be welcome. Do you have any suggestions.
Thanks for the great work!
