Q: Hello, with the recent chip shortage do you think this represents a great buying oppurtunity and if so which ETF would you reccommend and why,or risk aside which would be the best companyNVDA,ASML,AMD or TSM and do you think this is a good oppurtunity despite the supply issues, if one of these companies can get an edge on supply i would think the sky would be the limit given the significant demand ....thoughts, thank you for this service and all that you do.

Q: I submitted a previous question about my sister converting her portfolio from a robo manager to self-directed. The last question dealt with the equities side (75%) while this one deals with the fixed income side (25%).

My suggestions to her all come from what I've gleaned from your website, so I'm really asking for confirmation and criticism here.

She wants 10% in gold so I've recommended 5% of Sprott's PHYS.TO and 5% of AEM.TO. We realize these are not fixed income but plan to use them as a long term hold (insurance) and not speculatively. For other 15%, I have suggested VAB.TO and XSB.TO.

Some of her funds are in USD so she could buy US or Global bonds if that would add safety. It seems that would complicate things unnecessarily, a main objective being to keep it simple.

Kindly suggest a replacement with a better growth profile than Parkland Corp for a 10+ year hold in a registered account. Preferably in the Consumer Cyclical or Industrial sector.

Where do you speculate the price of oil is going from here, given all the problems with the reopening and of course the tensions in the Middle East.

I think people would rather go back to work by still wearing masks and getting vaccinated and the tensions in the Middle East is more likely to escalate due to proxy wars between Iran and Israel, as well as the likelihood of the Nuclear Deal failing or dragging inconclusively.

If the price is on the rise because of the above, then which of 2 Canadian oil companies you think make the best candidates for a quick trade and why.

I am holding VET for long-term return, and I was thinking of CNQ or CVE for this purpose.

Q: I have a 1/2 position in Lightspeed which I've acuired at an average cost of $61. I would like to begin adding more starting now. Although I generally don't try to time my purchases per se, I have preferred with LPSPD to look for slight pull backs given its volatility. Based on current circumstances, if one were looking for a "good" entry point price wise, what would that be, and if one were looking for a "very good" entry point price wise following a pull back what would that be?

I have the same basic question about 2 of your other recommendations I currently own - ATZ and EGLX. Based on current circumstances what do you consider to be a good entry point and a very good entry point for each of them?

Q: Dear 5i team,
My TFSA is not well balanced, and I am also trying to get the allocation mix correct in my RRSP too.
I have MX in my TFSA which is $1000 in the red. I have no technology in my TFSA- would it be smart to take the MX loss to take advantage of TOI’s likely growth - while getting to a better balance in sectors at the same time?

I have a question about Mawer Funds. My wife and I currently hold about 500,00 across 4 account (2 TFSA’s 1 RRSP and 1 Cash). We own Mawer 130 and 104 split equally. We have enjoyed the funds and the performance and just wonder what your thoughts are about the size of the company. Do you see AUM growing to point where it could hinder performance. Thanks

I bought LMT in Sept/2014. The company has performed well when adding dividends total return close to 16% per annum. My concern is the longer I hold LMT return is decreasing... 5-year total return is under 10%. Since early 2020 LMT has underperformed the SPY. Considering a trade for GD that is showing a higher valuation with stronger forecasted growth? GD has also outperformed LMT significantly over past year. Considering LMT in a taxable account decision not clear. Seeking 5i's perspective on making this trade to GD or continue to hold LMT?
