Q: Hi, I’ve decided to sell Telus for a small tax loss, and will probably replace it.
I’m looking at Wsp, X, Tri, for a long term steady growth and income (income good but not necessary). My ideal stock is one that preforms well in a downturn.
You can add a suggestion if you have one.
Thanks

Q: Wow, big jump in stock price. Any new thoughts on adding to a small position?

Q: Hello
What is your view on starting a new position for long term, in Constellation Energy, after Monday's 12.5% decline ?
The quarterly results and the guidance, as reported today morning, seem to be impressive, handily beating street estimates. What are your thoughts ?
Apparently most nuclear energy stocks were down today, in response to FERC decision to reject a proposal from the grid operator to ramp up the amount of power supplied to Amazon's data centre by Talen Energy. The FERC said in its filing Friday that it rejected the Amazon nuclear power agreement due in part to concerns that it could threaten the reliability of the power grid and raise energy costs for the public.
How could this impact CSG's 20 years power deal with Microsoft, which still needs approval from the NRC ?
Thank You

Q: I bought Aecon at $10.78 last year when the price dropped, offering an attractive dividend yield of almost 7%. I purchased it solely for its dividend, as part of my dividend portfolio, and did not expect much in terms of growth. Unexpectedly, to my surprise, it has become the best-performing stock in my portfolio. With the recent dividend increase, the yield now surpasses 7%. Historically, this stock has been quite volatile, with performance fluctuating. My question is: should I hold onto this dividend stock and overlook the 163% capital gain, or consider selling it and reinvesting in other dividend stocks? What is the potential here? If it reverts to its historical performance, would it be better to sell and buy other dividend stocks? Thank you for your insight.

Q: I had asked a question about boardwalk selling off recently and you mentioned oil price sensitivity in Alberta and while it has sold off slightly more than peers the entire group has gotten crushed pretty much straight down for the past 6 weeks despite rates trending down (probably at or more than expected) in Canada. Why are these names selling off? I don’t get it. Thanks

Q: 5iR recommends 20% for income, 40% for balance and 40% for growth. At the same time, 65% for US stocks and 35% for Canadian stocks. How do I combine or mix these two recommendations between Cda and the US? Like what % of income should be Cda vs US and ditto for Balance and for Growth?.....Thanks muchly for the assistance!......tom
Q: I've read some Q&A on tax-loss selling on this stock, and others in the past. If one were to do this with the plan of buying back - say BCE in this case, is this not a form of market timing that could go very wrong if the price were to suddenly rise? I don't see the benefit, if this plan did not work as anticipated (?)
Q: I own WELL and am still up in a non-registered account. Would you consider a sell and switch to VHI for better future growth?
Q: In December I moved ATD from my TFSA to my non registered account where it promptly tanked and continues to be very volatile. I'm down over 5%. Is there a rule of thumb about how long one lets a once winning stock ride before throwing in the towel? As an older senior, I don't have a lot of years to ride out the loss, but am willing to for a while if it seems reasonable.

Q: I am planning to sell my shares in CNR. I have done well holding it for several years but there just appears to be opportunities for better price appreciating than CNR has over the past couple of years. I would prefer to replace it with a Canadian company. It does not need to be an Industrial. I am currently over weight financials. I am ok with some risk. What companies would you consider as a replacement?
Thanks for all your help,

Q: Thank you for your prompt response Peter. My take on the stock’s recent trading history….10 weeks ago Simply Wall Street comments that the stock’s Q2 revenue was boosted by one time items. We get closer to Q3 release date and there is selling as some investors fear the numbers will be weak, thinking that revenue will not match the previous quarter. No more one time items. Eric Sprott sees that as a buying opportunity as he is a longer term investor. The shares are tightly held and so hard for Eric to acquire unless there is selling pressure. I’m assuming Eric is buying on the open market, not through a private placement. Do you agree?
Thanks,
Jim

Q: Confused about LMN. Results weren't great. 5i warned before market opened on Monday that direction of stock was in doubt so you suggested a hold rating. Then on Monday, LMN increases 11% on decent volume for the stock. What gives? What positives do others see? Did 'new' news come out? I realize being an off shoot of CSU is a big plus.
Q: Thoughts about HBA? I was thinking about taking a small position it it. Returns have been excellent, the dividend is also good.
Q: I’m under water with Bce by about 30%
But under no pressure to sell
Do you still like it for 5 to 10 year hold our
Is it time to cut my losses

Q: Curious what you think about CROP.U. Is this something you would recommend? If so how much of your fixed income portfolio should it represent?
Q: what are your thoughts on this company share price decline after Eric Sprott stepped in and bought a large amount of shares at around the 5.00 level giving him 19% in the company and now trading around 3.10 level. thank you.
