Q: I am down on all of these by about 20%. If I sell them for a tax-loss harvest, what should I do for proxies? Also, since I have no capital gains for 2022, should I sell these stocks/ETFs in January to avoid a jump in stock price before the end of the year (as tax-loss harvesting season ends)?

Q: Similar to another question today, I am thinking of selling Summit, but waiting until the new year to delay the tax hit on my capital gains. But - isn't the buyout price $23.50? With the current stock price at about $22.50, there should be about a $1/share gain by waiting for the buyout, compared to about 30 cents of lost dividends between now and then. Am I missing something? Do you think it is better to sell immediately in the new year and move into something else, or wait for the actual buyout?

Q: Retired, dividend-income investor. I harvested some ZRE related tax losses in my Cash account in October. I am now rebuilding a position in my wife's TFSA. I was planning on 3 tranches, every second month (using your suggested "spread out your investments over a 6 month period). I bought my first wave a week ago.

Now that Chairman Powell has made his recent remarks about the potential slowdown in the rate of interest rate increases, does this change your thoughts about the pace of investing new monies into the market? Would you endorse accelerating the injection of new $$$....specifically for ZRE?

Q: Me, pondering buy CIBC CDRs to top up US positions as the Canadian dollar is about 0.74 rather higher at say .80 FX exchange. Then later, when the FX trade out of the CDRs and then invest in the require stocks. The CDRs will me held in TFSA and LIF and perhaps a few in trade account.....What are the pros and cons of this approach???

Also, on the CDRs web site, the NAV of each CDRs is shown. What are the elements or components included in calculated for the NAV?.....For example, is it the final price of the day for the stock adjust for FX at that time and then also the hedging fee?........Thanks for the assistance and learning too!!!..........Tom

Q: Thanks for your guidance. As we come to end of the year I am looking to book tax loss as I am down substantial on several stocks, including some highly recommended by 5I. My question is in 2 parts

Of the above stocks which one you still have conviction and would recommend buying back after 30 days
Are there any stocks that may move substantially and is advisable to buy proxy or buy the same stock in family members name for the next 30 days

Q: A 3 year chart shows HXE up 107% and XLE up 52%, both based upon the same index. Does XLE not include dividends? If HXE includes re-invested dividends, when is that increase included in the share price?

Q: The first ones to forecast next year results are Goldman Sacks and they are pretty bearish on the stock market. They forecast the S&P to finish the year at 4000 after picking up steam in H2 while the first half should be down while traders will adjust their premiums with no gain in profits next year. Do you agree with their thesis? Where do you see the better overweight. In US with blue chips or smb ? Canada with oil and basic material? Look for dividend to try to make some yield? Please elaborate on your rational. Thanks a million$$$
