Q: Good morning - reading about the 10pc withholding on US publicly traded partnerships and the US tax filing requirement to get the wh back. I have positions in two REITs in the US and wonder if I shouldn't bail right now and avoid the filing requirement. Also, part of my holdings are in registered accounts and this does not look good to me. Please advise. Thanks as usual.
Also, Merry Christmas to all of you at 5i. Your service has been a big help to me over the years, thanks again
I just read a negative research report on Guardant Health in Seeking Alpha, suggesting it may not be returning to its growth premium anytime soon. If you were to have a change of mind on seeing it as a HOLD, can you suggest a few compelling replacements from your current US high-growth list of favourites (within or outside of this sector)? Thanks, Brad
Q: Could you give me your opinion of the above three ETFs for a long term, "sleep at night" portfolio? The YTD return has not been good, but I feel it should turn around in the long term. Thanks!
Q: What to do with IVN? I have a large capital gain and am reluctant to sell now, but I am worried about the reports of the investigations underway. Your guidance would be much appreciated.
Q: BAM, what is going on? down again big today? I bought down at 42$ and am now down over 10% in a few days? what have you missed? is there fraud at work somewhere? also, do you know why BNN website has a value for BAM on thurs. dec 1, 2022 of 37.32- 44.5$, which seems to include after hours trades ( in Canada, I have never seen after hours trades in Canada? do they exist, where does an investor see these?) , when the new equity did not start trading until 12/12/2022? was Brookfield trying to dump BAM? this makes no sense, and is not explained by broader market actions. do you have any guess as to whether this is a hold, sell, or buy now?
Q: well, call me 'a bit more nervous than usual...."
all brookfield companies are falling without 'real' reason
seems like more than just market noise
could it be, and fully understanding mr flatt is seen as the 'great compounder', that finally their obtuse/aggressive accounting on all entities is finally catching up with them?
you know, the tide is going out and we'll see who is swimming naked
Q: Hi Guys
I have noticed the distribution has been going down the last year and a half, I would have thought they would have at least stayed around 0.06
Cents but they are now .04
The holdings include a lot of Telcom and pipelines, and other companies that have been raising their dividends. Will they're be higher distributions in the future now that rates are going up, maybe just a lag factor here?
YTD I think the return is down around 3.5 % including distributions.
Finally, do you think I can beat a GIC return here over the next 2 years.?
Thanks Gord
Q: I hold this. I assume it will be part of the new "witholding tax on disposition" legislation. As a Canadian, is this an easy sell before year-end then? If I wan't a similar company what about LXU?
Q: This is my big loser, other losers aren't nearly as bad. Nio has dropped about 80% from when I bought it -- at the peak.
I can hold on without any problem.
But does this stock still have a good potential upside?
Q: Hi Peter,
I don't have any positions in the Health Care sector. Please provide a few suggestions, either stocks and/or ETFs, for both Canada and USA. I would like the Buy and Hold for say 5 years or more strategy.
Many thanks,
Roger
Q: I have Trane but see recently, you've had positive remarks about Carrier. That together with the 25% withholding tax on the dividend due to Trane being European based makes me wonder if I should change to Carrier for the next few years?
Q: I currently have holdings in the above-noted companies inside my TFSA and am intending to add to one or more of the positions. I understand that they are very different entities, but how you would rank them in terms of general quality and upside? Thank You
