Q: Good morning,

My questions this morning is partly Currency related as it applies to BN in particular and your best idea for a stock to add to the "ALTERNATIVES" portion of my overall family portfolio.

Q1. Would you kindly recommend your best two ideas for a stock to add in the "Alternatives" portion of my overall portfolio.

Q2. For my US$ Non Registered account, I was thinking of adding some BN to the existing holdings by buying BN in CDN$ and journaling the CDN$ stocks over to my US$ Non Registered account as I have done in the past.
That said and given that the CDN$ has dropped significantly of late and with perhaps more to go, would it be preferable at this time to simply purchase BN in my CDN$ account and leave the shares in the CDN$ Non Registered account with no journaling into the US$ account.

Thank you and I'll await your response.

Q: I have gains and outsized weighting in CSU, DSG, WXM. Planning to rebalance in the new year. I have been building positions in LMN and KXS and have a gain in those. I'm down and have smaller weightings in PBH, BYD, BEP.UN, AW. Which of these 6 would you suggest to add to in 2025?

Q: I have approximately $70k cash in my TFSA account that I would like to invest before the end of the year. I currently have the above stocks in my TFSA. My investments in Lightspeed and Unity have taken a big hit (70 to 80% loss) since purchasing these stocks. I understand that I cannot claim losses on investments in my TFSA account. Would you suggest selling off my investments in Lightspeed and Unity and reinvesting these funds? As noted above, I have cash in my TFSA to be invested. Please rank my current TFSA holdings for additional investment considering a 5 to 10 year hold. Thank you for your expertise and best wishes for the Holiday Season.

Q: Could you share 2-3 ideas that have the potential to replicate the historical performance of CSU and why you believe in them, CDN or US, or both. Thanks

Q: Hi guys,

Just reviewing your balance portfolio and I noticed that your highest conviction stocks are csu, dsg, shop and wsp, all around 6%. Can I assume that you would recommend these stocks for 2025 at this percentage of a balance portfolio?
Thanks
Jim

Q: BCE is so hated right now, it's trading like it's doomed if the dividend doesn't cut substantially. Dividend is now yielding 11%. Is this the next AQN or do they have a chance to turn things around with divesting TSN, laying off more people, etc? Was the Ziply purchase too high? Is the Air Canada Wifi deal a bad one or even move the needle? Is the Palo Alto partnership also bad? Seems like every news story coming out just drives the price down. I never want to catch a falling knife, but is the story really as bad as it looks right now and could this be a good opportunity to actually get in low with a high yield? Even if they cut it in half it would still be a great yield at this point. Maybe I'm blind, but I'm seeing more upside to this than downside at this point.

Q: Hell 5i I am considering selling BMO shares holdings and RY holdings as they in their higher price range. Sell high buy low! My plan is to reap the profit to buy ZEB. I would appreciate your thoughts on this. Thank you

Q: Hello,
I own the following O&G producers and this is about 12.5% of the portfolio.
CNQ 2%, Tour 2%, Meg 2%, TVE 2.5%, WCP 1.5%, HWX 1%, Ath 1.5%
I want to raise cash and would probably sell about half.

My view point is from a conservative, retired senior, but looking through next 2-5 years with these. I think the best ones to keep are CNQ, Tourmaline, Tamarack Valley and Meg - maybe sell off TVE if good gains over next year or two.
Would like your opinion on what to sell/hold.
Do you agree or perhaps would you reduce all evenly? (I prefer to manage at a few less stocks.)

Would you exchange any stock or have other other recommendations?

Thank you very much

Q: I owned CLS in 2000 and unfortunately in 2001 and rode the dot com bust all the way down. What is different, if anything, this time around? My 1/4 position is now a 1/2 position, thank you, but it has gone up too high too fast, and I have a long memory. At these levels is it a buy, hold, or sell? Or is it a keep your finger on the trigger, which is not my preferred buy and hold strategy. How will I know when the tide is turning or turned?

Q: Interesting comments in your latest Market Update about small caps. In addition to any potential upside in 2025, we are close to the possible annual January “bounce”. If you had to pick 5 (ranked) Canadian small caps to take advantage, which 5 equities would you lean towards? Also, is there an ideal ETF that would cover all the small cap basics? (2 questions)
On another note, long time member here who is extremely grateful for the outstanding service you provide. I’ve listened attentively, learned a lot, and have been blessed with some lucrative decisions, always guided by your sage wisdom. For that I offer a heartfelt thank you, and wish all at 5i a wonderful Christmas and another prosperous 2025!

Q: Good afternoon!
I have some substantial cash to deploy, ideally into Canadian dividend payers at 4% or more. I already have many of the usual suspects, including the following: ENB, BCE, PPL, BNS, CM, LIF, SIA, T, LIF, BEP.UN, DIR.UN, FSZ
I have been waiting until the December sell-off (i.e. Benj Gallander’s suggestion that it is the best time to buy), hoping to find some that have made the sell list that are good candidates for bounce backs in the future. After observing the market in the early stages of tax-loss selling, would you have some names that might fit that bill? Ideally maybe 5 or 6, although I realize that is a tall order, perhaps! Again, I am seeking dividend paying Canadian equities paying 4% or more.
Thanks! Paul

Q: Can you recommend 5 new growth stocks for a TFSA. I have DOL, TVE, VHI and WELL. Would you keep these, given the high valuations of some of them.
